I realise this is a bit out of date, but I just heard about it on the radio today.
Have a look to find out just how stupid (IMVVHO) the Christian church can be.

I've heard that this happened to quite a few yoga classes too. Unbelievable!

But it's not even as though Tai Chi or yoga are religious practices per se. Basically they are exercise programmes. How small minded these Christians are.:(

Ridiculous! 😮

What a pity the good people of Bexhill-on-Sea don't have as their vicar one I used to know in the Midlands. Not only was the church available for drumming sessions - wonderful accoustics! - but he used to throw the most excellent celebrations for special Pagan days in his house and garden. Truly inter-faith he was 🙂

It is daft, it's not very Christian to turn away gentle people looking after themselves peacefully.

But let's not tar the whole of Christianity with one brush, this is the act of a person, reported in a particularly left-brain paper.

How utterly narrrow-minded and ridiculous, especially when a number of students are attendees of the church. It is such actions that can turn people off religion!

Like anything else you will always have some naysayers.

First time I've heard the Telegraph called left brained. Errrm, what does 'left brained' mean, kvdp? Is it the opposite of left wing?
But I was conscious that I was overgeneralising by tarring the whole of Christianity with the same brush.

Good point, I was thinking with my right-brain when I typed it!

Theory is the left hemisphere of the brain is ordered, direct, logical, but not good at thinking out of the box; whereas the right hemisphere is about creativity, art and intuition, and flies by the seat of the pants.

Here's a link

Just happens the Telegraph has a simple test:

It was also reported in the Yorkshire Post today - about a quarter of a page!

It looks like a different vicar/venue, in this online version:

Same level of silliness though

I remember this being posted a couple of years ago now. It's very bizarre. I see the figure going both ways...fascinating.

As a Tai Chi tutor, I used to think that Christians preventing Tai Chi & Yoga to be held in their halls was unjust and silly. The reasoning behind it was that such activities would draw people away from Jesus down the slippery road of eastern philosophies, which would lead these poor souls to hell and damnation.

Now I think, well this is their belief system and they should uphold it. If I had a hall or centre and some narrow-minded christian sect wanted to hire it, I would turn them down, as I think what they are into is a form of madness.

Best Wishes

I also see it going both ways so what does that mean

There is the possibility that the newspaper reports are untruthful, but intollerance of others is an aspect of many religions. As soon as one adopts faith based beliefs they are taking a position against other beliefs, and therefore create the potential for conflict.

Personally I'm drawn to an agnostic position on the subject of spirituality, accepting many different possibilities rather than believing outright in any one narrow belief system.

Hi

I was listening to Sunday on Radio 4 this morning to the instructor involved in this matter was being interviewed, have a listen:

The interview starts 17min 30sec into the broadcast.

Sometimes bad news turns into good news, as Tai Chi gets more nice free publicity on the national media.

Our tai chi club bought a church hall from the local parish church. Vicar even joined the club. Forward thinking man, that!
