I have been doing tai chi for a couple of years and had nothing but benefit from it. I have no experience of any possible side effects so cannot comment on that.

Piles are basically varicose veins of the rectum. There are several possible causes, most commonly constipation and straining when passing a motion. This is tied up with weakened soft tissue in the body and particularly blood vessel walls. It could also be pressure inside the abdomen but as you have had treatment I assume this has been addressed. Whatever the cause I seriously recommend you ask your GP why they are there.

To reduce constipation, a wholefood diet is imperative plus the addition of something like ground linseed (to go on porridge, etc.) to increase volume and soften stools, plus plenty of fluids, particularly water. For weakened blood vessels see for a nutritional solution.

Hope that helps.

Piles

Bananas are the thing for piles. In Chinese food theory they have a withdrawing effect and I have found they really do have a beneficial effect on piles... they can even help with prolapses.
You can start to eat them when the trouble occurs or better still eat one every day in any case.
There are special recopies in the specialist books which include eating the entire thing including the skin.
Best of luck,
M

Sorry Eric, I doubt that Tai Chi is the cause. If anything, Tai Chi should prevent piles. You have to look at your diet and lifestyle. There is a very common but good Qigong exercise called "Lifting or Supporting the Sky" may help to reduce piles.

Best Wishes

I can't believe how supportive the people here are.

Eric - look at your diet, specifically all foods which help or hinder your bowel movements.

Tai Chi will not cause piles.
Sheesh!
