Hello HPers,
I attend a class of Wild Goose Qi Gong in Bromley (South London) on a Thursday evening (7.45-8.45) there are only 3 students and unless we get more the class will have to close. The class is taught by a Sifu and is very good. I have been doing Thi Chi for 5 years and Qi Gong for about 10 months. I have benefited more from the Qi Gong.
Anyway if anyone wants details you can either PM me or I will look back at this over the next few days.

Hi Lion

Best wishes for getting new class members.

I'm interested in your comment about the benefits you have received from Qigong over Tai Chi. I think both is great, but Qigong in my area is so hard to promote - an unknown quality. The transliteration issue of Qi Gong / Chi Gung / Chi Kung doesn't help either. I like to know your experience of Qigong so I can understand how to promote it better.

Best Wishes

Hello Reiki Pixie,
I don't mean to try and teach your Grandmother to suck eggs so please bear with me.
Qi Gong has been around for about two and a half thousand years and all forms of Tai Chi have come out of it. The basic difference I feel is that although Qi Gong can be used as a fighting form, it generally used as a health form i.e. a set of exorcises to promote good health. The other part of Qi Gong is to do with healing in that experienced practitioners claim to be able to heal themselves and other people too. It also promotes health eating.

The trouble is that everyone has heard of Tai Chi, but not many Qi Gong- hence we only have 3 students.

Hope this helps

And just having read your post properly!! (sorry) I really can say that the exorcises I have been taught have very much benefited my health. Now don't get me wrong, I still do the traditional long form Yang style Tai Chi and am now moving the centre and enjoying it. However I find my back is a lot more supple (has been stiff for a long time) and my general movement a lot me free.

Hi Lion

Thanks for your reply. As a Tai Chi & Qi Gong tutor I know that, but good for other people to read, as it was a good quickie description.

But what is it that YOU get out of Qi Gong over Tai Chi? Because your personal experience is helpful to promote Qi Gong.

Best Wishes

Ah just read your latest reply, well that's one thing you can help promote Qi Gong: back problems.

My back is just one example, I have to say that I feel generally lighter in my movement, more supple and overall more healthy. But of course, you have to put in to get the benefit.
If I had found Qi Gong before Tai Chi, I would have stuck with the Qi Gong . That is to say the Wild Goose form that I am learning. There are of course lots of different styles of both.
