Hi, firstly not sure if I am posting in the correct section, if not please move to the relevant area thanks.

Has anyone done KATA? I have recently joined a health club as I would like to try and get back to doing some exercise...I am restricted in some ways as I have mild ME/CFS and I know they say that exercise can make things worse....but I need to get back into doing something (before getting the ME/CFS (2009) I used to swim, do water aerobics, a lot of walking, etc). The health club are doing lessons in KATA which seems to be a mix of tai chi moves and karate...maybe not suitable at all I haven't enquired about the class as I want to know if anyone does it and is is gentle or strenous?

Yesterday I went into the pool, spent an hour, although could only swim about a width across, I did do a little water aerobics, nothing strenous, like walking on water, cycling, etc. I know I have to pace myself and I hae to know my limitations. Unfortunately with this condition you never know how its going to affect. Today I felt a bit stiff when i got up but not too bad and if I feel ok tom i will go back the pool and do similar to yesterday. In time I would like to be able to increase my exercise but with gentle things...there is a gym there but there's too much work for me at the moment.

any advice re Kata etc would be great thanks

Hi Atlantic Pearl,

There are many kinds of Kata (prearranged movement) sometimes called forms. In a sense TaiChi could be called one. If you are interested in what you see, let your instructor know your limitations and that you will be going at your own pace. Enjoy.
