Just browsing UK Sport's jobs and in amongst the usual 'fantastic opportunities' I came across a job, with a decent club that actually offered the prospect of getting some pay! There's also an intern post with what looks like some thought towards the persons development and decent expenses and finally one that has under job description:
Pre-match rubs.
Made me laugh anyway.

I know of 1 championship and 1 premeirship club actively seeking Sports therapists, not all jobs are advertised remember, its who you know. I also know of 3 league 1 clubs looking for suitable trained therapists ( myofascial release) and have contacted local therapists with their details. all sInce the FA changed their course titles. My role at a football club did not limit me to pre match rubs, in fact they stopped sending players to a major medical provider (charging £125 per session) when they found out I was trained in soft tissue release and myofascial release.
On the subject of changing titles I noticed today the SMA represent soft tissue therapists now, when did that happen? It was/we were sports massage practitioners last time I looked. One of the jobs above was for a sports rehab therapist, what's the FA call us now then?
Pre match rubs? Who they looking for Aladdin?
I thought SMA had been using Soft Tissue Therapy for a while?
UKSport did advertise the recent first team Sports Therapy vacancy. Didnt mention qualifications just said you had to have good range of soft tissue skills and myofascial release.
I queried UKA's use of the term 'soft tissue therapist' several months ago on the 'which therapy' thread, and Gary replied as follows:
Hi Alan,
no disrespect to Paula Clayton, but soft tissue therapist was being discussed several years ago at GCMT as a possible alternative to the "political hot potatoes" sports massage and sports therapy. I believe there was a descriptor and core curricula written at that time. from memory it was to placate and argument between skills for health and skills active of who should be the sector skills council.
Again its just another muddying of the water that could cause more confusion imo,

'Soft tissue therapist' still seems to be UKA's preferred description.

Here's a really interesting PhD studentship open to sports therapists:

If I could relocate to Dublin it would be perfect for me (except it's been ten years since I did any motion analysis or stats, we used Apple OS 9 on the computers back then).
Here's another one:
Therapist to work with football academy players, must be a HPC physio or SST sports therapist.

Might be good for somebody looking for a job or for those of you who fight against roles that say you must belong to a certain PA.

I have emailed MKFC for clarification, thanks for bringing this to my attention

Out of interest, did you get any response, Gary?

Has it been successful in the fact that people have then been employed who werent originally allowed to apply?
Has it been successful in the fact that people have then been employed who werent originally allowed to apply?
obviously we can only work to gain access to applications from members of ALL organisations, we cannot insist people are shortlisted or interviewed, let alone employed. What I can say though is that we have recently had 4 members demonstrating their skillset with UKA, and have members working in F1, Premiership and league football, non league football, Rugby, including the upcoming world cup.
we recently gained great exposure supplying sports therapists to head up the 2nd largest Rugby tournament in Europe an supply therapist for one of the largest events companies in the midlands

It has been successful in that the organisations concerned have said that they will no longer stipulate membership of any particular Professional Association and one admitted that their employment policy had not been looked at for many many years, so it is good that we are challenging them as it is making them review their outdated policies.
