Hello there fellow massage therapists.
I'm wondering if someone could give me an idea of what price would be reasonable to charge at sporting events for a 10 minute massage?
I'm just staring out so don't want to undercharge or overcharge. Does anyone have any advice?
Cheers
Don't charge - use it as a marketing exercise. 10 minutes doesn't give you very long to do anything constructive.
If you are charging, see what other therapists are charging.
I have done many events over the years, and usually ask for a minimum of 20 mins per person, to allow for removal of shoes/socks, and time to get on and off the couch. Make sure you have plenty of printed leaflets or information sheets for people to take away with them. Offer them discounts for any future treatments, to thank them for stopping long enough to talk to you. Don't bother with a health questionnaire - have a laminated sheet handy which says "Do you have or have you recently experienced, any of the following: acute infection; high blood pressure; a heart condition; cancer treatment" Anyone who answers yes to any of the questions, invite them to come to see you in your own clinic at a discounted rate, where you will take a more thorough medical history.
Great advice from Jabba, also at sports event you are likely to come across a high percentage of people stressed, in pain, hurt, knotted, full of adrenaline, warmed up, etc so bear that in mind. A ten minute taster won't allow you to get much done, so I would say don't charge - use it as a marketing opportunity, offer advice, samples and discounts on future sessions, if one person likes what you do that is worth a whole bundle when they go and tell their fellow sports atheletes.
