I'm interested in a change in career. I've been teaching PE and swimming for the last few years and would like to progress/maybe change my career to become a sports therapist. What are the options I should take? do I need a degree? which are the best courses around the country please?

Cheers!

Hiya ,

So basically, (from looking at the website you've given me) the only option there is, if I don't want to study at Uni again is to go for the course offered by Active? Is that the only course around in the country, please? coz I'm finding it quite expensive after I've spend money for my undergrad and postgrad too!

cheers!

Sports therapy is very specialised, so there are only a handful of training providers. You won't get a Sports Therapy course for less than £2k.

Ok, thanks for all your help. Really appreciate! I'm thinking of doing the course with active now.

I did the Active course and have never looked back, I know of many successful therapists who trained there, I organise a regional events team and all but one trained at AHG. the other therapist trained on a remedial massage course.
Why dont you give them a ring and talk to them about your needs and see if you can sit in on a class?

Hi there, not sure if you have already found a course you want to do, but I trained at Essentials for Health, who provide a streamlined holistic and sports massage course which is really excellent, it might be worth a look.

As you need a basic massage qualification before you can train in sports massage / therapy, it's a good option.

Hope this helps and good luck! Silke

Hi tamzzz88,

I am in the same situation as you and I'd love to hear about your experience.

This forum has been really helpful, I thought to study remedial sport massage but I found out what I really want to do is what a sport therapist does and I'm looking for the best course without going to uni. Is Active Health really the best provider?

Not being british I'm really lost between all the letters and their meaning BTEC, VCTC, level 3/4/5 etc. (ok 5 is higher but what does it mean in terms of been able to practice, open your studio etc?) and the accrediting organisations STO, ISRM, SMA, etc. Hearing your experience and maybe few tips from other users would be great!

Thank you!

Sonia
