The following statement has been taken from the Active Health Group website, it is relating to the 'state registration' of sports therapy, and the fact that companies are making false statements regarding this.

"We have been informed by the HPC (Health Professions Council) that only an initial approach has been made to them regarding the registration of Sports Therapy and its title being protected. No application has been made to date (9th February 2005), and we are in constant contact with them to ensure we get up-to-date information.

Once the initial application is made, it will take at least 2 years for it to come into effect, if it is accepted at all.

We are quite concerned at the number of organisations and training establishments informing people that state registration is imminent and that if you do not do the 'right' course you will not be able to work as a Sports Therapist. This is misleading and scare-mongering.

As one of the leading sports therapy training companies in the UK, we are in favour of bringing the industry together and ensuring the public are treated by first class, professional therapists, what we are totally against is the misleading information given to the public, to ensure that companies profits are kept high.

A number of complaints have been made to the HPC regarding certain organisations using them (HPC) for marketing purposes, something that HPC are not happy about.

If this situation carries on we will 'name and shame' the organisations and training establishments who are putting profit before professionalism."

Don't know about you guys but I'm very very tired of all this nonsense and losing patience rapidly! There always seems to be a question mark looming over something. Its an absolute joke and a completely farcical situation.

The main problem with the sports massage/therapy/soft tissue industry, as the old saying goes 'Too many chiefs' who basically can't agree on anything! It just goes around and around in circles. Highly annoying. Rant over.
