Hi guys,
Long time since I visited this forum, nice to see it's taken off a lot more since I last posted here.
Anyway a little background, I studied a course titled Sports Therapy here in Ireland and graduated nearly 3 years ago, it was a bundle of ITEC therapy and fitness diplomas including their sports therapy equipment diploma that they don't offer in the UK anymore I believe. Anyway, since graduating I've been working as a physio assistant and haven't really been doing my sports massage work unless I've had a bit of spare time. I really want to get back into what I'm trained to do, it is my passion and I feel like I've pretty much wasted the last 5 years of my life. What I want to ask is, I've been offered Uni places in both sports therapy and sports rehabilitaion but financially have never been able to justify going for either course.
Now, from reading posts on here there really is not much difference between a degree level sports therapist and a good diploma level sports therapist. I've also discovered the active health courses. Does anyone know anything about these active health courses and how much help they actually would be to me? I've done a good bit of CPD work over the last 3 years to maintain my membership to the IMTA but I've done little actual hands on work, what I'm wondering is, would the active health course be good for me? In reality getting away for 2 or 3 years to go to Uni is going to be very hard for me personally, professionally(given I'm in a permanent, decent paid public service job) and financially so would the active health level 5 be a good alternative for me? I would love to go and get a degree I have a real passion for study, sports and lifestyle injuries, biomechanics and of course rehabilitation.
Do the SoST's recongnise the level 5 diploma in the same or a similar way that they would recognise a degree?
Is there any other level 5 courses or similar that anyone can recommend to me?
I may be going to Wolverhampton next year as the course I did will allow me to enter 3rd year of their Rehab. Studies course, which probably wouldn't be much good to me for this area but it would at least give me the option to go and do sports therapy/rehab as a masters which would probably suit my availability a lot more.
I've been out of the loop a long time now and I'm desperate to get myself out of my rut and go and follow my dream, I'm still only 23 and as an athlete myself would build up a client base fairly quickly once I get my confidence up a bit. I was alway very good with hands on work and I'm completely kicking myself for letting it get to this stage.
I've also found the part-time distance learning course with the University of Teeside. They were one of the uni's who offered people in my college places following our diploma courses so I've emailed them to find out if I'd be eligible for this. Would anyone know much about this one either?
I know I'm asking a lot but I've just been looking stuff up again and information is pouring out at me so I'm getting all confused 😀 I would love to pursue all this further and really need to get myself out there again. Any help and information will be greatly appreciated.

I did the BSc degree, and found I had to undertake a sport & remedial massage course to get enough hands on skills to give me a competitive edge. I did my course with Active and found it great. I know that others on my degree have also done the same course.
You know your own circumstances best, so I couldnt say if the Active course would be good for you, I just know how good it was for me and my ST career.
As far as degree over diploma, theres lots of info on here, and a good debate on the previous thread. I ended up with lots of debt, and if my degree would have been enough, I wouldnt have had to spend another £2k on the Active course, and I know some of my fellow grads felt the same.
As far as I know the SST accredit the diplomas and degrees, however, at £360 per year for membership and insurance, I left them and have gone with another organisation, they did nothing for me, and my membership fee wasnt worth it.
