hello everyone

my grandmother raised me as a child, she was a healer so natrualy i am also and have been for many years. my grandmother did not charge and nor do I, i olny work on word of mouth as i have a full time job and a family.

an issue that has been bugging me is that: if i do not belong to any proffesionsnal body (although that i am also reiki trained and attuned) but lets assume i am not and that i have done no training does it make me any less of a healer.

personally i think it makes no difference, i was wondering what others thought, as some sites i have visited make it a point as if a better service is provided if you are.

Hello there. Belonging to a body does not make you a better healer, but there are a number of advantages. The first is that, when working with people other than friends and family you have a membership card which can be shown which gives them assurance. Even with friends and family, if they ask you to work when they are in a hospital, the path is greatly eased with the ward manager if you can show formal identification.

Also, you meet like minded people and can learn from them (and they from you). The training may teach something which will help you, either personally or for your patients. I frequently meet people who have problems due to lack of protection, something which is taught in training.

Joining a body will not lessen your position as a healer, but will help it. This group suits me.

With love and light,
Sue.

Hiya
Yes I agree with Sue, there are many advantages to joining a body. When I joined Healers2006, I didn't expect to learn quite so much about what I did intuitively and have done from a child! Also the support of others in similar positions is good to have.

If you get to working with others it's good to have insurance, and governing bodies can give very good offers on insurance. It's not just your clients who may sue you: what about if you hire a room, and while you're taking your couch down you slip and the couch goes through the wall? That's the sort of thing covered by most public liability insurances.

The simple answer to your question

does being a member of a body make you a better healer?

it has to be no it doesn't make you a better healer, but it does offer you other benefits as outlined. I know plenty of reiki therapists who do not belong to any association. The choice is a personal one.

I haven't joined an association (body) for reiki - however I have got insurance and I wouldn't dream of practising anything without insurance cover.

thanks for your views on that and i did check the site you offered, the reason i asked was that i know my grandmother would not have accepted this at all, but she was from another generation.

i do understand the liability of it, but it feels a little removed from what i do, i do not charge and only offer via invitation because i am here to help. its a funny world sometimes.

The answer to your question is NO. NO. NO.
although I personally am the chairman of one of those associations.

I also have never charged for Spiritual Healing or Reiki and never will do.

Only one comment with regard to the words "I am a Healer" is that within the field of spiritual/energy healing IMHO the words should be "Healing Channel" as your healing guides are delivering the healing.

Being a Member of Group

Over the last 18 years or so I have been a member of 4 so called Professional groups to do with my business, and as some say on here it certainly does not make anyone a less or better worker.
The thing being a member of something is these points. 1 you are not quite as rich as you use to be pri to joining them due to silly high fee's they charge. 2 Being a member of a group does often get you in better contact with silly little bossy people who do really own the Planet. 3. If you join some groups until it comes round to your yearly membership fee again you wont even know your a member of it.
All I say is keep your money for yourself, as all groups houses they own are all going to be bigger than the one you own.

flit,

to save me going to he gym every day, does being a healer give me a better body.

David,
if i actually made any money i would keep it!;), the points you raised where the main concerns i had really, i feel they put a negative aspect on what i do, if in the unlikely event that i advertised my service then i may need to concider the insurance side, but will be a reason to keep it the way it is, very private.

is being a member of a body right for everyone?

I have been in the alternative healing arena for nearly 20 years and each year paid the fees requested by various governing bodies. Often it is just a group of people who decide to get together and make up some rules for membership for others to follow to be a member once they have paid. It does not make you better in any way as long as you keep learning and researching your subjects. All but one of the groups I have left because its time consuming, costly and not helpful to me as a practitioner. I have always had insurance and continued with my professional development, mixing with others and learning from each other. It is a matter of how you feel but it should never be so that the bits of paper mean anything as each person has just paid for it.

The person who I visited was amazing they did say from day one that he was not a member of a professional body which did make me think twice and he wAs really cool about it, he gave me a website address where those registered advertised. But I did go with him not because he was free but because he felt genuine. My experience was life changing and I am glad that I did not let this aspect guide my decision and to be honest I think he pushed the point more than I did.

Forgive me for ressurecting an old thread...

does being a healer give me a better body.

I just wanted to say... IT DID FOR ME!!

It helps that my training was quite physically intensive- lots of body psychotherapy- and lots and lots and lots of doing healings from the Horse Stance in martial arts..

So yes.. My chest is broader (from all the deep breathing, I think) and my legs and back are stronger.

Hiya Safe

I have to say I personally loathe the "bodies" who endeavour to control and restrict the activities of healers. There are a few "biggies" who in my experience charge massive membership fees for very little, and seem to concentrate a lot of effort on bolstering the egos in their committees rather than assisting the members.

My personal preference is always to gain ceritifcation for any healing you offer, so that you can obtain insurance (ie your reiki certificates, animal healing etc) and then go it on your own. The one body I would recommend as worth joining is the Spiritual Workers Association (SWA) who offer genuine support to members, in addition to extremely competitive insurance to cover most modalities. They also have a great advice service and offer legal advice.

Lets stop making these big healing organsations wealthy, they certainly dont make you a better healer - just a poorer one lol ! 😡
