I am hopefully soon to qualify as a massage therapist, but cant help but feel there is a lot missing from my knowledge. I have been interested in Shiatsu since being shown a little by a tutor of massage who was also a Shiatsu practitioner. I was impressed by the efficiency of her movements, and how she located problems with a simple touch.
I have previously dismissed Shiatsu training due to the cost and lenght of time it takes to become qualified. Massage is my passion but not my job, and I would like to keep it that way.
I have now found that Shiatso-Do near Loughborough do a 2 weekend Basics course, and wonder if anyone has experience of this or similar courses. The 2 weekends form the beginning of the stages of training, should I decide to take it further. I would be working on family and friends, not the general public.
Hope someone out there has some thoughts,
Dawndaisy.
I also looking to learn shiatsu and start to take up patients very soon if you know any place where I can do this let me know .
Shiatsu Training
Hi
I am currently in my final year of training in Shiatsu at the Bath School of Shiatsu and Yoga. There are lots of places that you can train in Shiatsu - see the Shiatsu Society website for info - there are schools in lots of different places. I have been working in a full time job right through my training and haven't had any problems with time - approx 1 weekend per month is required, plus a bit for revision and home study (though it is up to you how much of that you do). It has opened my eyes to a much wider world, looking at Traditional Chinese medicine and 5 Element Theory, both offering a holistic understanding of people, illness and the world.
The 2 or 3 weekend intro courses are great fun and can teach you a lot about Shiatsu in a short space of time - definitely worth doing if you are unsure as to whether to take it further.
Or maybe try a Shiatsu from a student or practitioner? The Shiatsu Society has more information:
Hope this helps
