RE: Interesting Reading

Any books by Saul Goodman such as Shiatsu ShinTai, he has an incredible grasp on alot of knowledge and manages to pull it all in together.

Hi JB,

also includes dream interpreting

What sort of dream interpretation? Is it the TCM way?

RE: Interesting Reading

I don't know about the TCM way, it talks about the 5 process dreams and using it for diagnosis. Excess and deficient energy in the five organs.

RE: Interesting Reading

TCM way is something like "if you have water imbalance you'll dream of mushrooms". But I have not found anything very in depth about it.

RE: Interesting Reading

This book is about Tuina but I believe it useful for Shiatsu, "Chinese Massage" by Sarah Pritchard is very good and has good explanations about TCM theory and easy to follow charts and diagrams.

I've been reading this bookthat has already given me insight into my practice although it is not Shiatsu. Check it out, A Zen Approach to Bodytherapy by William Leigh. He integrated Rolf, Feldenkrais and Zen Meditation.

RE: Interesting Reading

"Extraordinary Vessels" by Kiko Matsumoto and Stephen Birch has a very good chapter on abdomen hara diagnosis and the accompanying signs, the book is directed to acupuncturists but the information on the 8 psychic channels is very good comparing historical writings both chinese and japanese. The authors explore the use of needles of different metals and their effects also the use of magnets. Another interesting section was about the Zones of Dr. Zhang Xin Shu which looks familiar to some other work I have seen somewhere but can't place at the moment, but looks useful to the Shiatsu practitioner. Included also is structural balance and TCM theory.

The Zones of Dr. Shu are similar to a Dermatome Chart.

The Zones of Dr. Shu also look similar to the Langer Lines used in fascia work.

The book "Hara Diagnosis: Reflections on the Sea"
is very informative and a definite valued addition to the library although some things seem thrown in there they provide trails elsewhere such as Sotai. I also liked the traditional explanations along with the chinese perspective.

RE: Interesting Reading

The zones of Dr. Shu, the Langer lines and the Dermatomes also look similar to the Hirata zones. Are they all the same?
