Hello all,
I've recently taken reiki one and I'm now considering how to progress with reiki. Financial constraints are a major prob right now and my reiki master has advised me that if I want to give reiki to others (not family or friends) then I will need to take both reiki 2 (£100) and reiki master (£500). I really can't afford this at the moment and although I would really like to progess I'm not sure what I should do now. Is it generally necessary to have completed reiki 2 and master level before you treat others?

RE: Level 2 to Master
Hi Lily,
Absolutely not.
As soon as you have been attuned to level 1 you are able to treat friends and family.
To practice Reiki as a paying therapy you will need insurance and that is not usually available until you have level2, and have obviously got some practice in on family and friends.
Many practitioners out there are only attuned to level 2
RE: Level 2 to Master
Hi Lily,
It's not necessary to have completed the Masters course, only the 2nd degree is neededin order to practice professionaly & otherwise. I woulld say that being a RM when practicing professionally helps as people may tend to steer towards someone who hastrained this far but it depends on the practitioner (determination/attitude etc) & it's perfectlypossible to treat at 2nd degree level.

RE: Level 2 to Master
Hi Lily,
I don't think your master is correct. You only need Reiki 2 to take out insurance and treat other people. I did Reiki 2 about 3 or 4 years ago, have insurance and treat people at a hospice - NHS is thus comfotable with my level and my insurance. I have an idea that you will not get isurance to treat people other than your family with Reiki 1 but I am not 100% sure of that. Reiki 1 is suppose to be mostly for self healing but I think it is totally dependant on the person - for the first year (maybe 2) I did mostly self healing with an occational family member. My sister on the other hand did Reiki 1 and was giving treatment to family, friends, friend of friends and work colleuges - she had some incredible experiences and some amasing result. I think it totally depends on where you are on your own path.
Masters is only if you decide to go further and maybe want to teach and attune others- I think that if you are doing Reiki 2 then you probably will do the masters eventually as it is said that it is great for spiritual development - that howeverwill come when you are ready. I have felt no need to do this but I am confident that when the time is right and the right master appears I will go for that attunement.
If finances allows I would say go do your Reiki 2 - you will learn the symbols and they are quite amazing to work with - and it will build up your confidence.
Good luck,
RE: Level 2 to Master
Lily,
If you've only recently taken Reiki 1 then your first priority is to do self treatments every day to help you adjust to the Reiki attunement and the shift in your energy.
And Yes, Practice giving Reiki to others as well, the more you use Reiki the more sensitive you will become to its energy and flow. It's like making a new friend, a friendship of ever growing discovery.
You don't need Reiki 2 and you certainly don't need Reiki Master to treat others. Reiki 2 will increase the amount of Reiki you can channel but it won't increase the "Quality".
Reiki 2 will simply allow you to holda hand position for less time to deliver the same "Quantity". Itwidens the pipe so to speak. Reiki 2 will allow you to focus the Reiki you channel into different frequency bands (so to speak) to focus on the emotional, mental or physical aspects of healing using symbols.
There are other advantages to Reiki 2 like being able todo distance healing but this is also possible by using Reiki 1 and "intent".
I wouldn't worry about any of these things as Reiki is not only a path of healing but also a path of spiritual growth. It takes time to learn...time and practice. Why not enjoy your Reiki 1 for a while? Use it, practice on plants, animals, food, friends, clients. Feel it working in your life and making a shift in your ability to be open to love and compassion.
Then, when you want to go further, consider doing Reiki 2.
There is no rush. Enjoy your journey into ever increasing light. Go at your own pace and rest in the secure knowledge that Reiki will guide you exactly as it should to your highest good and highest intent.
Bless
Bryan
RE: Level 2 to Master
Hi Lily,
I totally agree with what the others have already said. You obviuosly are having some misgivings about your RM to ask this question so maybe it might be helpful for you to look around for another RM?
In what way did you want to progress with your Reiki path? If spiritually then you can do that on an on-going basis of personal experiences, if working more with the public then you need to do Level 2. Publish Indemnity insurance is a must at this level.
I practised as a Level 2 for 3 years before feeling the need to take my Masters level. Even then I did not want to teach, it just felt the next step on my path. It was another 2yrs before I thought about teaching!
I suppose what I am trying to say is there is no time span you have to do this in, go with the flow and when you feel comfortable then go for it.
Good luck on your journey!

RE: Level 2 to Master
Hello Lily
I was typing this offline while others were posting. It seems we're all pretty much in agreement here, so I'll leave my post as it is, even if it appears to repeat what others have said.
No, it is not necessary to become a Reiki Master in order to treat others. It is necessary to become a RM in order to ATTUNE others. I wonder if perhaps there has been a slight misunderstanding here between yourself and your RM, and I would suggest you clarify this with him/her. Let me just expand a little on who you can treat and when, as I understand it.
In theory you can give a hands-on treatment to anyone – family and friends, and others – at Reiki 1. In practice however, it is now generally considered unwise to treat others without having professional indemnity insurance. The insurers will not insure Reiki 1's, by and large, only Reiki 2's.
It is not necessary to be a member of a Reiki organisation in order to be insured – many of us have independent insurance.
In addition, if you have Reiki 2, you can send distance healing as well as giving hands-on treatments. This again is in theory, since there are those who will say you can send at Reiki 1 if you have the intent to do so. I certainly was able to do so at Reiki 1, but after I did Reiki 2 the healing was certainly stronger, more focussed and more effective.
You say you have recently done Reiki 1 and want to progress. May I ask how recently you did Reiki 1? Again, there are differences of opinion as to how long one should wait between the different levels. My own view is that it's a good idea to allow sufficient time for the new energies to be assimilated, at all levels, but of course that will vary between individuals, and each person's best bet is probably to be guided by their own intuition.
I hope this helps. Please ask again if you want any further clarification.
Best wishes,
Holistic

RE: Level 2 to Master
Well now Reiki Angel,
Perhaps it is the great mind of Reiki repeating itself! 😀
Sometimes we forget that it is Reiki that uses us and not us who use Reiki.
🙂
But...back to the ego...Yes! Great minds think alike! LOL 😉

RE: Level 2 to Master
hmm Lily another RM not telling the truth you certainly do not need to be an RM before treating others but do you need to do level II before working professionally with Reiki e.g charging for your time. Best to get plenty of experience with the Reiki energy before progressing to level 2 and when you are ready the money will come to pay for it. Reiki is like the best chocolate cake and is most enjoyable to savour each slice....the slower the better......otherwise you have eaten it all too quickly and this can give you more than a rush of blockages to sort out.
Level II certainly does increase the frequency due to your energy system becoming clearer, the clearer your own energy system the more powerful the energy that can come through you. Self treat, integration is imperative and the more you integrate by healing the self and practising with the energy the more powerful it becomes.

RE: Level 2 to Master
I totally agree with the above...
Reiki 1: Treat Self, Friends, Family, Pets, Plants
Reiki 2 + Insurance : Treat the general public as a practitioner
Reiki 3 (Master) : Teach and Attune others to Reiki
Simple as that.

RE: Level 2 to Master
Hi Lily,
You certainly don't have to be a Reiki Master to practise Reiki! Most insurance companies ask for Reiki 2 if you want to charge.
I think the most important thing right now is to concentrate on your self-healing and find out more about working with Reiki, eg premises, couch, etc. It's also good to get in the habit of going to Reiki share groups now and when you are working with Reiki. When you are ready, you can do Reiki 2. Make sure you can get guidance and support from your Reiki Master about setting up your practice, you'll find that support very useful in the first few months.
