Hi there Butterfly!

I was only attuned twice for each level - one was distantly and one was personally. I am now a reiki master too, and I do the same - one distant and one personal attunement ceremony. As long as the symbols are intentionally and actually placed in the student's aura, then the reiki energy is then free to flow.... There are so many different variations aren't there, and I was quite confused - as sometimes there seems to be information overload!! However.... now i go with my gut and follow my instinct much more. I know what i personally do works for me, I follow the reiki principles in my life and i am happy with my personal reiki practice, so that's good enough for me!!

As far as the Raku symbol goes, i was attuned with it too, and i was taught that this was an extra strength supplement power symbol... so when the power symbol needs a power boost, or you need an instant blast of reiki raku can be used!

Hope that helps!!!
Hugs,
Dipti xx

Hiya

My attunement consisted of one at each level, following the Diane Stein book and method, which I now use. You might find the aetw Reiki site useful: [DLMURL] http://www.aetw.org/Reiki [/DLMURL] it's full of free stuff you can use and good links.

Good luck with your next course!

I don't want to sound mean, but if I was taking a Reiki course and the Reiki master said that, I would be really concerned about their ability to teach me Reiki. Do you not think it would be a good idea to actually take a good Reiki masters course so you can teach Reiki well? It just seems really unfair to your students. Just my honest opinion, no offence meant.

The issue of attunements is dependent on the type or style of Reiki you are teaching. Since you cannot get hold of your Reiki master, do you have any contact details of the other students on your masters course? Maybe they could help you? The other thing you could do is ask if any HP members locally to you are teaching a masters course in the near future and see if you could sit in on it for free? Failing that, you may want to re-take your masters course with a Reiki master that you feel more comfortable with.

Hi Julesk, thank you! yes i see the concern on my limited teaching ability at my masters level, but unlike my master i want to do the teaching/attunements to a high standard, hence why i'm on here getting other peoples opinions and advice, which is what this forum is used for?.I have two students coming to me next month but unless i feel confident i will postpone till i do. At the moment im retaking my masters level and attunement to boost what knowledge i do have. bright blessings

Amount of Attunements

I've recently finished my master teacher level, and was given examples of several different attunements. I was informed to spend time trying each one and eventually I would become more comfortable with a particular style, and my intuition would begin to play a large part of each attunement. the most important part is not the ritual you go through but the intent behind it. I was given a short example to practice and a very long example, where every symbol was put into each chakra point from behind and in front of the student, and onto the palms and the backs of the hands.
There are some good examples in Dianne Steins book and online by peggy jentoff

I have found with all things in reiki that simple is best. The minute we try to over-complicate things, we get tangled up and intent is unclear. With your manuals and your attunements, go back to basics, go within yourself and ask your self what feels *right*. Go with your inutition and trust that reiki knows what it is doing and where to go.

NB - I was interested in Dipti's comment about Raku! I was taught it was simply a symbol to draw down the back to close the session... since I know a little about symbolism and how the word 'raku' is applied to a firing technique in Japan, I was understandably a little perplexed. Same when I found that the symbol Yod was Seikem in origin and not Usui as I'd been told...

Hi all,

With the Raku, I was taught that this is used for the initiation ceremony as well as DKM. And, as a master, you can use it as a "blast", not if you haven't been attuned to the master level. Does that make sense??!

I'm so thankful this forum exists, it's such a great source of support! 😀

Please correct me if this isn't the case!

Hmm, thank you. I shall have to sit with the symbol's energy and see what it tells me.

Yes that's a good idea. Diane Stein, in her Reiki Teachers Manual, says that she thinks the Raku symbol has powers that as yet are unexplored. I've used it to cut ties and to end situations in the past.

hehehe, I'm finding that nothing in reiki is ever black-and-white! I agree with whoever said simple is good... there are so many horses for different courses so we all need to find what sits best with us as individuals... but I do believe underneath it all, reiki is still reiki, pure and simple.

I learnt Jikiden reiki, a very traditional Japanese style, I'm happy with what I have learnt and I think Jikiden reiki is great, but I'd hate to turn into one of those people who is adamant that 'I'm right and everyone else is just plain WRONG!' I'm still very interested in, and respectful of, all the experiences of others in this field of energy work.

btw, from what I remember Jikiden reiki has 4 'attunements' (we call them Reiju) for level 1 and 3 for level 2... but Reiju can be 'topped up' by a master at any point really and the teachers do encourage you to attend shares and repeat levels to get more Reiju as you go on your journey (and more understanding and practise too!).

Hope this helps... it can be so confusing... remember just for today, do not worry!

I practice / teach Usui Reiki Ryoho (another method that's more traditionally Japanese) and it's quite similar to Jikiden: 4 reiju (attunements) for Shoden (Level I), 3 for Okuden (Level II) and 1 for Shinpiden (Level III).

But yes, reiju (in some Reiki traditions) is designed to be an ongoing experience: I perform it for my students when they come for reiki shares or treatments, and I receive it from my teacher when I attend her shares as well.

I find that kind of ongoing contact and development (as both a teacher and a student) really helpful to my practice.

Hope this helps!

Are you getting help from your new RM in developing your knowledge?

The reason I ask is that whilst forums are a good source of information, they don't allow for the nuances in communication that face to face conversation allow. I guess you would understand that in preparing for the discussions you're likely to have with your forthcoming students when teaching them.

And perhaps as you gathered from your own learning at Level 1 and Level 2, it's as much about sharing how to live and incorporate Reiki on a day to day basis that's needed as is the technical know how of how to think about hand positions and work with symbols.

As teachers we can get caught up in how to do our job of attuning - in my experience it's done through us by the Universe and not by us - but for our students it's more about how we communicate and share our experiences of working with Reiki that bring it to life.

And it is through that conversation process that students grow in their healing strength as they understand more personally what the gift of Reiki they've received is about. I understand that for Usui meeting students regularly was as much about helping the individual grow in outlook as it was about giving Reiju.
