Hello,
I have been told by a reiki grand master that i am an evolved soul, can anyone explain this to me as i am a reiki newbie.
Much appreciated

Hi
It means you've been around a bit! You've incarnated more than once on this Earth and have evolved, that is passed through some karma and on your way.
Hi easterchick
It means that they think you have been here on earth many times before and maybe you don't have many reincarnations left on this earth.
I've been told the same but to be honest, I wouldn't pay it too much attention as it is not really important and can fuel the ego or create worry... at the end of the day we are all evolving all the time, at a pace that suits us best, what is important is how we use the time we have right now in this life to work on ourselves and help others.
It's just a verbal trick sometimes, which people across the spectrum from Reiki to mediumship to healing and spiritual teaching use (on me for example since my teens) to impress you and ingratiate you with them. The idea, in such cases, is to boost your ego, that their view of you is very high, so you keep going back. So they get more followers and maybe more money.

To me, an evolved soul is one that has moved away from their physical existence led life to develop their spiritual nature as part of their progress to enlightenment. As a Reiki teacher it is perhaps easier to pick up on a soul's level of spiritual development. Maybe the Reiki 'Grand Master' was picking up on this or as venetian says, it could just be a marketing ploy.
At root, I simply think that no person should judge another, either for better or worse, as this leads to all kinds of problems.

I know this may be a little off topic, but can you define what you mean by 'judge' in the context you have used it above? I hear this from many people, but I think the definition of 'judge' is important. To me having an awareness or understanding of another soul is very different to actually passing judgement on them. For example, saying someone who has been training for many years is fit is an observation, not a judgement. I am interested in why people think it is wrong to make observations and why making an observation is perceived as a judgement.
Hi
re: the post above, from a social anthropology perspective... it is very difficult for most people to observe without passing some form of judgement. Human nature has evolved so that we are automatically inclined to categorise, polarize, group things together and judge... it's a survival instinct but it makes things pretty complicated to an extent! it's not even something people are necessarily conscious of doing, but our brains have a way of always trying to differentiate between good/bad, better/worse, higher/lower, us/them etc.
I think this may be what V is encouraging us to avoid... it really should not matter if a soul is more or less 'evolved' than anothers, so there is no need to comment or point it out. I do agree that it can be about fluffing people's ego in order to gain their rapport and confidence.
If someone tells me 'you have a very old/evolved soul', what does that even mean? Are they saying they think I am wiser, cleverer, more compassionate and closer to the 'divine' than others? Does it mean I can stop working on myself and relax, confident that I don't have many lifetimes left until I reach perfection? Of course not! So to me, the comment has little constructive value.
I do not doubt that some people have a certain intuition and can perhaps pick up on the state of the souls of others... but is there much value in telling them about the state of their soul? I think maybe we are better off discovering this for ourselves, through our own development.
Whoops, I seem to have gone off on one a bit in this post.... but we're all entitled to our own opinions so pelase don't take anything I've said personally, I'm just pondering the topic!

That is a good point, but I have found from my own experiences as a Reiki teacher that helping someone to understand themselves goes a long way in helping them to accept themselves. What I mean specifically is that some spiritually evolved people can feel quite different to their peers, friends and family and not know why. They can spend their life struggling to be like everyone else and actually be quite unhappy in the process. Helping them to understand why they are different can help them to accept and embrace who they are as individuals and ultimately follow their path in a much easier way. There is of course much more to this, but I cannot really go into it in great depth on a forum.
