I saw this post a while ago. It was a very long thread. I signed up ont this account and it got lost. The question was: Can you earn a living through giving Reiki treatments? I know a handful of people that do this - it depends on how many people around you are open to Reiki and also how good a Reiki practitioner you are. I know one guy just across the river in Quebec who offers Reiki to a whole room of people on beds. He goes from bed to bed offering Reiki energy. Moves very fast and is a very strong channel for Reiki. People line up outside his door. Its so hard to get a booking with him. But these people are rare.

I make a decent living with Reiki but mainly through TEACHING REIKI. I would say 75% of my Reiki income comes from teaching classes and only 25% only from clients. This means I teach every weekend, some weekdays and also some week nights. There is such a huge market out there that wants to learn Reiki you just need to tap them.

Of course, I live simply. I don't have a car. I own my own home and have paid off my mortgage so there is no rent to maintain anymore (I paid it off way back in the day when I worked in IT). I also don't have kids or pets to support.

I agree that for some Reiki people, teaching Reiki is their main source of income, but I know of others that make most of their income from giving treatments. I think it depends on your focus and what you are trying to achieve with your Reiki. The more you focus on one area and apply your effort to promote that area the more successful it will become. Also where you work makes a difference also. Working in a complementary therapy clinic or a health club will mean the majority of your income will be from treatments.

You are right about "where you work makes a difference". I work in Canada where people who are Canadian citizens get free health care from the government and insurance companies. Unfortunately, Reiki is not covered by health care or insurance and so people have to "pay". Because most Canadians have this mindset that they expect health care to be free, not many are willing to pay beyond three treatments. So by my emphasizing teaching Reiki,, I am basically teaching people how to heal themselves with Reiki skills. I feel there is no other way here in Canada to make a living through Reiki than to really focus on teaching it.

I totally agree about the monies thru treatment. I also believe if there is a will there is away. Sometimes doing more than one healing practice can help. Germaine keep going..congrats on owing your home.
That is quite a big deal! Welcome to healthypages.

You can certainly make a living with Reiki however it can be a challenge.

Most people include Reiki in a wide selection of services that they offer. So they also offer message, ear candling, and other such things.

It's best to diversify what services you offer as much as possible. If you are only interested in providing Reiki, then you need to think about how many different ways you can do that.

Such as:

  • Offer monthly Reiki shares
  • Offer in-person treatments from a clinic
  • Offer mobile treatments to peoples homes
  • Offer home treatments from your home
  • Consider teaching
  • Do online treatments
  • Go to conventions and events
  • Get a website and learn Search Engine Optimization.

There are many things you can do. Many Reiki practitioners are not so business orientated. The successful people are the ones who understand how to promote a business.

If you can do that, you can make money from Reiki.
