Yes this is a contra-action to Reflexology and is quite normal. Due to the circulation being increased blood pressure can drop, the hypothalamus detects this drop and so initiates a thirst response. The reason the body requires water is for basic fluid balance, homeostasis, which in turn raises the blood pressure to an acceptable level.

This is another reason why we offer a drink after every treatment. For clients with low blood pressure they will definitely need a drink during the treatment and those with postural low blood pressure should be given a minute or two and enough water before they rise from the couch/chair.

I haven't had anyone ask for water during their treatment but I do give them a small bottle of mineral water to go home with afterwards, as part of their treatment, which hopefully encourages them to drink more. A lot of them however are not out of the door before it's open and finished, so they're obviously thirsty.

I am always amazed with clients who do not drink water daily. Most are healthy clients, have good diets, exercise etc but do not drink water! I also have a bottle of mineral water for clients during their treatment and ask them to take some before the get off the therapy couch and also find they leave behind an empty bottle before they leave the room. I also find that most clients drift off during treatment and may have a "dry" mouth afterwards which makes them want to drink water. I do also stress about the importance of drinking lots of water to help flush out toxins and find that the majority of clients so take the advice. I think its a natural body reaction after treatment.
