Hi there everyone. Can I just say how useful I have found this forum. I keep logging on when I am supposed to be studying!!!Anyway, at the moment I am doing my case studies for my reflexology qualification.
Here are my questions which I hope I can get some help with.
1) Do you tend to find that the same reflexes are tender/painful each week(if there are no other changes to the way the client is feeling. I realise that if say they had a cold one week there may be pain/crystals in say the sinus reflex as an example).
2) Should you be aiming to basically get rid of the tender or crystals by the end of the say 10 treatments. I get good feedback from the client but sometime the reflexes still feeling tender or crystally each week, even when I am approaching week 8 with a couple of them.
3)What do you right down in your notes if you find say pain/crystals in an area where there is no problem-having asked the client and can find no reason at all why the reflex should be that way.
Does anyone have an example of a couple of actual case study sessions so I can see how things develop and the way it is written up?I hope you don't think I am being cheeky, it would just allow me to know if am writing it up in the correct way as we have not even been shown any real examples at college so finding it a bit more difficult to relate to it but totally loving the reflexology. Exams in 2 months time!AAAAAAAAAH!
Thank you so much for any replies I get. I would really appreciate it!!! Regards, [img][sm=sad-smiley-047.gif]
RE: Case Study Questions-Help please
Heya and welcome to hp.
It's hard to say exactly what to expect, your case study sessions will make things become clearer.. every person you treat is different and as such there is no hard and fast rule regarding how quickly they will respond.
1) You used the example of a cold, try working on someone when they have a cold or infection, you'll be surprised by the changes in the reflexes and how quickly they can return to being normal. I would say it takes a few treatments before you get the mor significant responses, both in the feet and in general, normally I would say 4-6 treatments.
2) Sometimes a crystal can go in one treatment, other times they seem to never go. You may even have a client who has many problems, however their medication is balancing them out and you find almost nothing.. cause, for them, they are in good health.
When doing a treatment, make the first one a gentle one, to get used to the feet, some people have a lot of toxins and you don't want to go in really hard and send everything out all at once.. what you can do is work the area as you find it, then continue treatment, and go over the area again, in some cases the crystals will have disappeared as other elements aer balanced out.
By the way don't just rely on crystals, you can feel all manner of things - popping, puffiness, dryness, the client can feel pain, tenderness, even flinch, whatever the response, it's valid and important and useful to draw on in your reports.
3) The case study is for you to scrutinise yourself and the therapy.. so you understand it better and improve yourself. If you think a treatment went well or even badly, say so and say why. If you find something in one area but there's no reason, write that down, it's valid. There are many reasons for problems with the feet, ill fitting shoes can cause all manner of problems as can poor posture and this alone can lead to slightly misleading reflex feedback.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
RE: Case Study Questions-Help please
Hi everyone, just found this site, so I'm not sure how it all goes. I am six months into my reflexology, and at the begining of my case studies. To see an example of a completed case study would be of great help. I love the practical, I always have an overwhelming sense of well being after I have given a treatment, does anyone else feel this?????? I couldn't belive how many of you out there are studying.
RE: Case Study Questions-Help please
Hi there! I have been doing my reflexology Diploma since september, and like you, I am amazed at not only how energized and relaxed I feel after giving a treatment but also at the sense of well being I feel...I am also 3 months pregnant(and rather unwell [:'(]with this pregnancy) but even when I feel as if i do not have the energy to do a treatment-I always forget about how I feel about 2 minutes into the session. I definately believe we receive back all the good energy we put into our treatments xox
RE: Case Study Questions-Help please
Hi folks, I am unable to paste the link for some reason but if you google Ann Gillanders case studies it will bring an interesting article up.
Hey reflexy, I have people who have been coming to me for ages and there are certain areas where those crystals just won't go. I think everyday life just puts repeated strain on certain parts of us, and it's very hard to change that although you may be able to get them to improve a bit.
RE: Case Study Questions-Help please
Firstly I do hope you're enjoying your reflexology studies. It's a great therapy, both to give and receive.
I remember the case studies...such a lot of hard work, but well worth it in the end.
Ok let me try and answer your questions:
1) Do you tend to find that the same reflexes are tender/painful each week(if there are no other changes to the way the client is feeling. I realise that if say they had a cold one week there may be pain/crystals in say the sinus reflex as an example).
Sometimes. Depending on the client (remember each client is an individual and therefore each client will not react the same) and also the depth of the problem. Some clients tender reflexes clear up after one treatment, others need many more. Don't forget to look beyond just the physical reasons...remenber the emotional and spiritual too. Eg: tender area on the bladder - this could be a full bladder, a possible urinary tract infection, or the client could simply be "pissed" off with someone... You need to explore all options. Just remember the golden rule: Reflexologists do not diagnose.
2) Should you be aiming to basically get rid of the tender or crystals by the end of the say 10 treatments. I get good feedback from the client but sometime the reflexes still feeling tender or crystally each week, even when I am approaching week 8 with a couple of them.
Again this depends on each individual client and problem. Ideally you'd want to aim to clear the problematic area but being in mind each client is an individual you will find it takes longer to shift in some clients than others.
3)What do you right down in your notes if you find say pain/crystals in an area where there is no problem-having asked the client and can find no reason at all why the reflex should be that way.
There is always a reason of sort. Review your client information sheet and see if you can spot anything that might be connected to that area or system of the body. The client might have forgotten he/she has/had a problem in that area because they are generally feeling so good receiving your reflexology treatments. You should find any possible physical reasons by doing this. Otherwise don't forget to look at the emotional and spritual aspects as well.
Where is it you're finding the tenderness consistently with this client? If I had some more info I might be able to help you find what you're looking for...
Regarding case studies examples...have you asked your tutor for some examples? Also my tutor would reveiw my case studies as I went along, is yours doing this? The best person to ask in my opinion is definately your tutor.
Best of luck! Let me know how you get on.
