One of the speakers at a support group I belong to spoke on Mindfulness and Depression (along the lines of Jon Kabat-Zinn). I liked him. He is a practitioner of Core Process Psychotherapy, and works from a local counselling clinic. I've put my name down on the clinic waiting list, which is about 4 weeks long.
I haven't spoken with him, specifically, about his approach and what treatment entails - but of course I'll find that out when/if I get an appointment with him. But I have done a bit of reading from online resources on CPP, so I have a generic feel for it.
I wonder if anyone here has had direct experience of CPP - and could share with me what sessions feel like?

Hi Ava
It's not something I have come across before. What google results have you found?
Hi Ava
First where have you been so long?!
I read a book by him 'Wherever You Go There You Are'. It is all about being in the moment. I can't remember anything astounding about it but it was generally good. I did not feel the pull to take it any further. If you do, you do. It can't do any harm.
Does one have to go to America to have his treatment?

Hello there! I'm not really after more info on CPP per se - I feel quite happy with the bits and bobs I've read about it on the web. The guy who I'm booked to see covered quite a lot in his general talk about Mindfulnessness and Depression in the support group I belong to. Because I liked him I booked in to see him, not knowing what form of counselling he offered - and it was only after I found out that I started to look for info on the web about CPP.
What I think I'm looking for here is perhaps someone who's seen a CPP therapist and has general comments about what it was like. Why, do you have something in mind on the web which might be a happy alternative to this?

Hello Ruby x. Things just got on top of me recently, I'm afraid. Very sweet of you to notice that I'd been away. Thank you.

Hmm, I'd not thought to look for books on the subject. I guess since I have such a long [hmmph!] wait of 4 weeks, that it might be worth reading a book. I have, of course, already got Jon Kabat-Zinn's book Mindful Way Through Depression. I really should read that fully and carefully before my first appointment.

No. It's just one of the forms of counselling: like Person-Centred, or Transactional Analysis, or Gestalt, or CBT are forms of counselling. Likewise Core Process Psychotherapy also is. I've done a quick search in Google for Core Process Psychotherapy and Edinburgh and there are quite a few therapists here. You can in fact obtain your CPP qualifications in the UK, at the [DLMURL="http://www.karuna-institute.co.uk/core/index.html"]Karuna Institute[/DLMURL]. Just giving it a quick glance it appears to be a 4.5 year course.

p.s. Woot! You are my lucky number 1000th post! I can clearly remember when I got to 100. Seems like only yesterday...
Today I went to another clinic, and have got an appointment with a Core Process Psychotherapist... next Monday. I spoke with the clinic manager and he felt that this form of counselling was a good choice for me.
I might come back to this thread in a couple of weeks time and post up my thoughts about what it is like. It appears to be a form which folk aren't familiar with, so perhaps people would be interested to hear something about it?

As part of some NLP training I did some of what was known as "Core Transformation" which is a process for reaching core issues developed by Steve and Connirae Andreas.
It was quite good. some similarities to other processes where you follow things back and back, and then bring the learnings and healing forward and forward.
Still think you would be hard pressed to beat a good person-centred counsellor who has done a lot of his/her own therapy.
Well, an update. I went to my appointment with the Core Process Psychotherapist. It was just the introduction where we meet each other, talk about the practical stuff (payment, cancellations, confidentiality etc.) and learned a bit about each other. I liked her. She stopped me a few times to make me observe what I was doing or saying, which I like. I think I can learn much from her. She's given me a regular weekly slot which starts next Monday. I feel optimistic.
