:eek:Hi to you all,

I would very much like to know what the average session of cranial osteopathy comprises of. The reason being I envisaged it to be a session where the ostepath would use gentle manipulation to the head area in order to help relieve certain conditions. Am I right? You may think it strange to ask but I took my daughter to a session today as she suffers with reflux, disturbed sleep and irratic behaviour and the session was not as I imagined it would be. The therapist just took some brief notes about her, discussed her food, evaluated the reason why we were there and then gently placed his hands upon her head, abdomen and back regions. To put it plainly I considered it to be reiki more than C.O. and as a reiki 2nd degree I would know! It was £29 and I felt I had achieved nothing except a 20 min session of reiki which I could do at home. So can you help? What should it be or is that how it appears that you work with intent rather than actually performing a procedure...do you follow me?? I hope so.......

Please help as I don't really want to waste time and money.

Cheers loads

Claire:)

I do not knwo about cranialostheopathy, by in craniosacral therapy when you put your hands unde the skull you work with the cranio-sacral fluid. Try to follow its movements. So it may look like Reki, but in fact it is quite different. The pressure and movements are very subtle, so you may not notice them as an observer.

Like Artemis I know nothing about cranial osteptathy, but do have regular (once a month) cranial sacral treatments. The movements are very subtle as she says, and to the casual observor could almost not be seen at all. Very strange and profound things can though and do indeed happen. I have all sorts of things happen during my treatments, imbalances being corrected on many levels, not just physical. The after effects for example of putting my foot in a rabbit hole and how that jars the spine and the nerves in the leg. Also various past life stuff has come up, and even psychic surgery (removing etheric swords etc from old battle wounds). The practitioner I see (who also happens to be my best friend) works on many levels, correcting many different things.

If you are concerned about it though then talk to the practitioner and explain your concerns. They should be only too pleased to answer any questions you have.

Two of my ex-students are cranio-sacral therapists and they explained in detail. One even gave my daughter and grandchild a treatment and fixed what was wrong.

The technique is an energy-based one, but the knowledge is much greater than with Reiki, and manipulation does very much occur, albeit in a much less detectable way than the loud cracking and jerky obvious movements done by an osteopath or chiropractor. Cranio-sacral therapy works on the level of the fascia, the thin membranes covering everything in our bodies, and the cranio-sacral fluid. Movements are very minute and very real. The therapist is highly trained to detect the slightest changes.

Next time you go, ask the therapist to talk you through the process, you will find it fascinating 🙂

It sounds perfectly normal to me. I'm a huge fan of cranial osteopathy and have used it on all of my children with great success, it is very different to standard osteopathy and the manipulations are so minute unless you were trained you probably wouldn't notice them!

Are cranial osteopathy and cranio sacral therapy the same?

I don't think they are quite the same Siobhan. From what little understanding I have, I would think that cranial osteopathy works more with the bones in the skull, whereas cranial sacral works with the cranial sacral fluid.

A cranial osteopath is working with the cranial sacral fluid but also has a full osteopathic training. They are therefore anatomy experts and may use this style of osteopathy alone or in conjunction with manipulation-type osteopathy to correct imbalances.

A cranial sacral therapist will have trained in cranial techniques, without the same depth of knowledge in anatomy and physiology. They are not osteopaths, but are using a small part of the osteopaths techniques to help correct imbalances.

Both therapies use very subtle manipulations of the cranium to effect change in the body, which are unlikely to be observable to the casual onlooker.
I recommend all my patients with new born babies to take their babies for cranial osteopathy in the first 4-6 months. A superb therapy!

Yes I know I'll be taking my new little one when s/he's born! All babies should be seen in my opinion...I bet it would save the NHS so much money not to mention reducing so much stress for babies and parents.
My youngest posseted all the time....2 sessions with a CO and he never sicked up again. It was our fast labour (90 minutes) that irritated something. Really looked like she was doing nothing but it sure did work! I also enjoyed talking to someone on my wavelength for a change!

Hi delmare

Years ago I took my son to a cranial osteopathy centre for children in London. I think they still exist as I get mail shots from them occasionally. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name or address but they are in the West End of London behind Oxford Street I believe. The reason I am telling you this is when I went, and of course it could have changed now, the treatment was free of charge and they just asked for a donation.

I cannot say it did much for his condition of glue ear he had at the time, but there were some very sick children there and their mothers swore by the treatment they were getting.

Excited !!!!!!!!!!! I have my baby booked for his first cranio-sacral therapy session. He is 6 weeks old. There is no specific reason for me doing this, other than to give him the best start in life. It sounds as though I am doing the right thing by all acounts.

Reading this post has been very helpful.

Hails xx
