Hi

I feel as though my Right shoulder is somehow out of alignment and needs to be realigned, as it were. Also, I have been going running lately and have had to stop on a few occasions as the instep of my left foot has been really painful when I have been running. I have developed a blister there now and have had to stop running for now.

I feel that I need to seek help for these issues but am unsure whether to consult a chiropractor or an osteopath. I am unsure as to the differences and similarities between them and their practices.

Any information would be a big help.

Donna

RE: Osteopathy or Chiropractor?

Hi Donna,

there is very little difference between the two, it boils down mainly to personal preference. I have posted before on the exact wording that we have at work to explain the two (I work in a Chiro clinic) but the gist of it is that they both train for the same length of time, both belong to professional bodies and are regulated. Osteopaths generally do more soft tissue work and the appointments are usually slightly longer, chiropractors use manipulations and are shorter appointments. Both can offer dry needling and various other techniques.

You can usually get a free check to see whether they think they will be able to help wth your problem -maybe go and see both and ses which you are happier with?
