Just thought i'd start a thread so we can all keep in touch over the case studies at Bodyharmonics.

I have already had great results with one treatment 🙂

Lets hope the rest are the same.

The homework study is going to be a task fitting it into my head, so i'm thinking of memories that can go to make room 😀

Good luck everyone!

Ha ha yeah it's weird isn't it how you sometimes remember the silliest things from ages ago, memories you could really do without, while you can't remember some important stuff 😀 😀

Good luck!

Hi Chris, It's Anna.

I am signed here already so great to use it as our forum...and just when I had a question...
For the shoulder and elbow case studies, are we required to complete a full case study or is it just for the 3x4 ? I thought I might...as it says record and evaluate each treatment...and it appears that the 7 tongues are those that we choose to case study??

thanks for the links too!!!

speak soon.

I understand it as:

task1: 7 tongues

Practice:
task 2: 3x4 using points in order on the sheet - a, b, c, d, for energy building and general health. (treating bi-laterally)

Musculo-skeletal
task 3: 2 x 3 treatments for shoulder ( treating one shoulder only)
1x 2 for elbow conditions

Total 20 treatments

I think Maria said that if we want, we can take these patients right through our case studies.

HI Dave,
done 6 treatments with acupuncture, with some good results already.

Just need to revise the rest of the paperwork.

Just to note: the student packs are good for the outset, but i think we'll need more.

Check out this link for needles, very good price and quality. Same as we use on the course.

Get 0.30 x 40, 0.25 x 40 & 0.25 x 25. Cost me £30 for 200 of each which should see me through the year.

Received my student pack today. Understand what you mean but it will keep me going for a while. Start to plan my case studies ASAP!

Cheers

Back into it..

Wotcha. Just back from hols and getting back into needling some poor unsuspecting case study people. Though already had LI4 work on someone for toothache, worked a treat.:)

Just thought I'd shlap a text on this forum to say hello.

Hi Chris and other BH students

Im slowly plodding through the case studies. Had some interesting results, especially with clients that have insomnia - they sleep better. One with thumb problems has benefitted with LI4 needled.

I'm really enjoying sticking the needles in, have a chat with the client, twiddle, have another chat with the client, and whip them out again. Much easier than deep tissue massage.

What is everyone doing for case notes? I just doing the first 3 pages of the questionnaire, photo the tongue, and writing up on lined paper.

Best Wishes

I,ve just been printing the questionaires out and filling them in, i remember maria saying that she wanted everyone to do the same sheets ( i think ) I'll probably convert them to something fancy towards the end thats easy to read.

Just got one shouldr and elbow to do now, then learn the points...again!

Defo beats a full hour of bodywork but i love tuina and it fits well together.

Hi Cristina

You only have to do the form once per person then take notes. Well that's what I'm doing. I'm at the moment using the first 3 pages of the consultation form (disclaimer, personal details and tongue diagnosis).

Hopefully should clear (or almost clear) these first 20 treatments by the next meeting.

As for cheap accomendation try:

Sorry to hear about your redundancy 🙁

Best Wishes

I,ve been filling in the form at the initial consultation, then just adding the patients response to the treatment every time.

Sorry to hear about your job christina 🙁

Hi Indo

I've been lazy and kept buying acu medic needles, because at the end of the day the delivery is quick and none of them have broken. I also brought 3 of their 5 cm diameter cups, rather than a set.

Haven't done that many case studies due to being a way (did Ren 4 on Tuesday for the first time), festivities and the snow. But starting to treatments now and studying the course notes.

Best wishes for the new year, may it bring joy and prosperity.

Hi

I use Tewa needles... I find they are a very good compromise quality-price. I get them from Germany because they are cheaper (about £ 4 for a box) and they have more choices in length and thickness than if you buy them here.

If you want details just send me a message... I personally dislike Acumedic ones very very much but they are good to practice on cushions, fruits and stuff...:)

Hi guys,

has it been difficult to get volunteer patients for the acupuncture courses you are all doing with bodyharmonics? Have your case studies been successful?

Its is always slightly difficult as it takes some commitment on their behalf, and as you tend to do them for free, people don't value it as much as paying clients.

Those that do, reap the benefits!

As for success, personally i have had some life changing results for some and others not. ( just need to write them up from all the scap bits of mind doodles 🙁 as i tend to more on to the next study due to time scale)

I.e if you have to record 4 treatments for someone that requires 10 the results are not as good.....but the practice is always beneficial as every treatment is like a new study tool.

Needling is the (somewhat) easy part, detailed diagnosis is the hard bit, but the more you do the easier it becomes to recognise the conditions and the patterns they follow.

Indo,

Sounds like you are really enjoying the course. Can I ask you because the course is not accredited by BAAB will it be a problem do you think to get paying clients later on when you have qualified?

How many clients do you all treat on average per week?
🙂

Hi Ju79, Re AcuMedic needles.

I have no problem! The one's we use in class are different makes, I can't see what the difference is. Each to his or hers own. Prehaps in time when I'm more Qi sensitive, I may change my view.

Hi around the world.

I been involved in CAM for 13 years, and I can tell you now, most people out there wouldn't know the difference between one profession association to another. The only thing clients ask me is, "Where did you train." If someone is convinced that they wish a BAcC registered practitioner they will go that root. Majority of nurses, physio's and medical doctors that practice acupuncture to varying levels are not BAcC.

To answer one of your previous posts. I having now probs in getting people for case studies. Some are friends, my Reiki & Tai Chi students, and some clients are happy to receive a needle or two when I give them massage. The 2 work together.

One of the great things about practising other therapies (esp. Tui-na massage), is that a practice is already established, clients have gained confidence in the therapist, and went to the therapist from a recommendation. I'm sure Indo would agree. A good recommendation will out perform any letters after the name, any time.

best wishes to you all

Yep ...agree!!!

The more and more i hear about the British Acupuncture Council makes me realise how many people are actually buying into this monopoly.

P.s PIXIE...did you mean 'root' or 'route' wasn't sure if it was a encripted pun 😀

Hi Indo

Yes that should be "route".

And for anyone else reading this, I shall repeat: A good recommendation will out perform any letters after the name - any time. Too many therapists are too worried about their qualification status which is just a sign of lack of confidence. This is not (for me) about the BAcC, but all professional organisations. If the therapy is safe, effective and legal, who cares?

best wishes

Doing my first back shu points tomorrow, how are you finding it?

HI Pixie,

only done 2 treatments for back shu points as the first patient has L5 & L4 wired and screwed so i thought best not to do that, just had a picture in my mind of metal + metal + electricity.....not good.

The second patient didn't feel comfortable removing her clothing....so i'm a bit behind on back points, but it gave me a chance to use other points.

Just to add to the comments about reg's, i once treated a lady from Sydney, Australia who owned a health club. She mentioned that in Australia they are surprised at the constant seeking of qualification in this country. Over there you are checked by a common health body for safety and ability to carry out duties, then you are put on to a register so that people know you are 'vetted' then it is purely down to the practitioner and his skills to perform the job that gets the work.

In a conversation with a patient recently she remarked that she had always (in some way) performed massage for her children when growing up, and that this country is hell bent on putting people and skills into boxes, which shows a lack or confidence and maybe even lack of intelligence.

All other cultures seem to take things as they are, for its value......it is what it is!

I still think that we are 10 -20 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to personal health care, and i am glad that i can provide an effective service for people.

As in all things, the intelligent will always seek the best for themselves, the rest of the sheep will keep getting round up and put through the same gates until they realise the dog is not always neccasary. 😮

Hi Indo

Did the back shu today. Her back was very tight around BL23 esp R side, also added BL57 as the calfs were tight as well - no surprise there! After treatment calfs were loosened and the lower back muscles were more relaxed. Due to another prob I wanted to do BL13 with cups or moxa. She didn't want that, so I rubbed Tiger Balm into BL13 instead. She could feel it pentrating the points.

From talking to several Aussies over the years, I feel we are behind and CAM not integrated enough in the UK. The another Chris on the course told me that in France he is a member of some kind of trade body / union and it doesn't matter whether you practice Tui-na or Reflexology (etc, etc) you charge a standard rate and just get on with the job.

Cheers
