hey,
just trying to gather some info as to where to study tui na and, possibly, acupuncture. I'm running in the dark with a blindfold on...the most credible courses(so it seems) are so expensive and really long. The Bodyharmonics course is alot cheaper and shorter than most others but I need some feedback from people who've studied there...
Is this a good course?? Need help as I'm running out of time! Any advice welcome, please...
thanks

RE: anyone studied at BODYHARMONICS?

Their website looks quite impressive; they do alot! I know nothing about tui na training, buthave beentreated by a TCM doctor using this therapy. He also uses acupuncture - which I LOVE (the tui na was tootough for my taste). The tui na training course looks OK, but I'm not sure about the acupuncturetraining - As compared with a 3 or 4year course - just makes me wonderwhat could be 'missing' from a shorter course?

Bodyharmonics acupuncture course

Hi Indo,

I am considering an Acupuncture course again. I ruled out Bodyharmonics but find myself seriously considering them again.

I have done research on Maria and know how amazing she is! However, with all due respect, I still find myself doubting the course. If you don't mind me asking, 1).why exactly do you recommend this course with Maria? 2).Is one really 'qualified' after the training? 3). What qualifications does one aquire after completing the course?
4).Is this course only for quick learners and those with loads of self-discipline (lots of home-study, I'm sure!)? I have the passion but fear that I'd be lacking in the aforementioned areas...

Hope to hear from ya.

Body Harmonics

Hi Mooboo,

The courses are very intense and it does require alot of case studies, but the support is brilliant.
The legislation regarding acupuncture will be changing in the next year or so, and all existing therapists will have to meet a certain standard to continue practicing. This will rid us of practitioners that are unqualified to work.
The benefit of training with maria is that she has been appointed as a representative of the board that will design this legislation, so you are in good hands!
This means that if you train before the legislation you will be part of the 'grandparent scheme' which will automatically recognise BhTEC qualifications, other than that any other changes that are needed you will be in the right place at the right time.
I myself will be starting the acupuncture course this august, i might see you there.
I have completed 3 courses with maria and i know the acupuncure will be hard , but worth it in the end.
I know 6 other collegues that have done this course.

Here is a link that tells you about the credits of the course.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Bodyharmonics

Thanks INDO!

That's really helped. Visited their website numerous times but didn't come across that page...(dope) Still a bit worried about the intensity of the course (and other things like travelling from London, etc.), however, I know that I can do it if I set my mind to it...so, yes, you may just see me in August.

PS: I've found your posts interesting and helpful: it's great that someone has become more 'vocal' about their Oriental Medicine experiences and training. Thanks again.

Maria has accomadation next door to the course and its very reasonable. Don't worry about the travelling its worth it, people come from all over europe to train here.
As long as you plan it ok the course won't be a problem.
As for the case studies, some have taken two years to hand them in!
you can pass your exams but won't get the qualification untill the studies are in.

I too have been looking in to acupuncture training, and I liked the look of Bodyharmonics but I too was concerned that it dosent appear to be a degree course like most of the other accredited courses, in Reading and LCTM ect.
I do find the cost involved quite daunting and I think Marias does work out a bit less than the larger colleges, I was hoping that maybe I could seriously look at training this year but realistically it will probabaly be next year now. Let us know what you decide Mooboo

I can't speak for body-harmonics as I've never been there but I thoroughly recommend Sarah Pritchard's Tui Na course at the LCTA in London. It's not the cheapest, but as far as I can tell it is the most in-depth and Sarah and her team are an inspiration!

hi trinabeanbag,

just a quickie to let you know that I decided to go ahead with Maria's course and have found it very good thus far... the atmosphere has been great and I've taken in so much over past 4 months! It's alot of work but it's very do-able; and the slight challenges (so far) have been 1. finding case study 'victims' -which hasn't been difficult with the massage but we'll see how keen people are about acupuncture (anyone interested, by the way??):D
and 2. retaining confidence+self-belief when feeling overwhelmed.
Just shoot if you have any questions or feel free to call Maria - I'm sure she'll gladly answer any enquiries you may have.
And let me add that I've met 1 or 2 students at Bodyharmonics who have completed, or were in the process of completing a degree course, and according to them we've done more in our first 'slot' of acupuncture than they did in 2 years! There is also a fellow Tui na student who has joined this course because, even though he is degree-'qualified' to practice Tui Na, he only learned about half the techniques that we have done so far (on the Foundation course) at Uni. In terms of regulations, nobody knows for sure what is going to happen - best to speak to Maria about that - but BH students will be able to still practise as we'll fall under the 'grand-parenting sch
eme'.

Hi

I'm on the BH acupuncture course with Indo & Mooboo, and was pleasently surprised on the overall standard of the course. Definitely a good move and have no doubts that I can practice in the big wide world when graduated.

One of the girls on the course is a physio who did a 2 day physio acu course. She said that compared with the BH course (the first 4 days) it was kindergarden stuff. She considered the BH acu course to be of degree standard.

Best Wishes

just to add, a couple of the students had attended degree courses and both said that it was all theory and no practice. Both dropped out due to uneeded academic demand.

Funny you should say that, i think mooboo joined from my recommendation.
Some commission would be nice 😉 pointing others in the right direction is payment enough, and you never know how long Maria will continue to teach for.

Anyone seen my parrot?

I'm also on the Acupuncture course at Bodyharmonics and I'm doing the tui na masters at the same time. Yes it is very demanding and you have to be organised but it is an amazing course and although it is full on you won't be bored for one single second! Believe me!
The course standards as mentioned are just as good as a degree course and in some ways much better as you have tui na skills which are the highest in Europe and you start acupuncture practical from day one, giving you confidence and skills from the start. No other college or institution does this in the UK. I might be saying something controversial here but personally I'm fed up with the way that a certain organisation promote themselves and their members as the 'Only' organisation that can be trusted in the UK. This is rubbish and in fact it has been endorsed by some of my fellow students who are, or have followed an acupuncture degree (some of which became disillusioned and burnt out with irrelevant theory). Maria's courses and her training is exceptional, and has been justly recognised as such.
Long may her institution remain.

** With moderator's hat on **

Hi Everyone,:)

Although there may at times be a narrow line between providing helpful information and actively promoting courses, may we just advise that some posts in this thread are getting a bit close to crossing that line.

Please take care in your questions, and replies so that your posts don't appear promotional, which is contrary to the forum guidelines. This applies whether it is your own course, which is strictly not allowed, or someone else's.

Many thanks.
