Hi everyone
I'm new to this area of therapies. I have been confused for a while about the difference (or similarity) bertween hypnosis and NLP. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks

RE: Is NLP hypnosis?
Hi Waywood.
The answer is definately YES and also most definately NO!
NLP was initially (and still is being) developed by two chaps called Richard Bandler and John Grinder. They saw patterns of excellence in many leading therapists; some of which used elements of hypnotherapy, whilst others were from completely different backgrounds like counselling or gestalt therapy or psychotherapy.
NLP uses the best techniques from many of these fields, and more. It is so effective at building rapport that some people find it rather entrancing, so I would not be surprised to hear that they think they have been hypnotised. We all experience trance at some time or another, so in a way, yes it is hypnosis, even when it's not.
Best regards
Steve:)

RE: Is NLP hypnosis?
Steve
thanks for answering this query brilliantly. Well done. I would just add that because it is what you said it is it has become not only a therapy approach in its own right but a powerful tool in understanding communication patterns, vocal behaviour and also a way to shift limiting beliefs. As such it is today used by a variety of different "users" such as teachers, trainers, consultants, coaches and well you name it.
RE: Is NLP hypnosis?
Hi
I am currently training to be an NLP practioner.
The cd course is what I am currently working on prior to the intense face to face course.
The course history has touched on the fear that is faced when programing is mentioned.
I am still not convinced and the cd's seem to put me in a trance like state.
I am not happy with the thought of some american anchoring thoughts at an unconscious level.
Should I be concerned?
&
If not, why not?

May I just add my two-penny-worth?
Once you know how NLP works you will find that you apply it in many areas of your life - with colleagues, friends, family etc. It really aids communication and reduces misunderstandings etc.
