I went to see a Naturopathic nutritionist this week and was recommended a variety of supplements. I wondered if any one had tried any of these products and how effective they found them. They are:
Nutri Ultra Muscleze
Megafood Vitamin D3
V-Pure Omega 3
New Chapter Zinc Food Complex

Right... well, that's a loaded question! Whilst I haven't tried those exact brands, I have taken omega 3's, zinc complexes, and vitamin D3. But, it doesn't really matter what my experience with them is because I am not you. In Chinese Medicine (and many complementary therapists subscribe to this theory) two people with the same illness can be given different treatments... because we are being treated holistically.

But, responding to the question generally. You can buy cheaper D3 supplements - almost any company will be cheaper and equal quality (even the Tesco own-name brand). Higher Nature does an excellent Fish Oil supplement, which is the best of them all - in my opinion. I'd check the price of those and if they are cheaper or similar price then I'd opt for the Higher Nature ones.

I've never heard of New Chapter. And looking at the ingredients it just seems to contain small amounts of superfoods (doses fine if you are a hamster) and some zinc. My feeling would be that if the objective is immunity then you might consider taking something from Biocare. Go to and look under their 'immune health' section. Maybe think about one of the first 7 (not the last one in the list).

Hope that's helpful? But without knowing what she is treating you for, it's hard to comment. So all I can say is go for cheaper brands for the generic stuff (D3) and the best for the Omega 3 (Higher Nature) and maybe something a bit more practical and less fussy than the New Chapter supp.

Thanks for the advice. I'm vegetarian so can't go for fish oils hence the more expensive v-pure. Same goes for D3, apparently this is normally form animal source and the one I've been recommended in vegetarian.

It is to help with muscle stiffness, immunity and chronic back pain.

I was also asked to get some blood tests from my doctor to check for deficiencies among other things which I have booked in for end of next week, do you think I should wait until after the tests before starting the supplements so that they are a true reading?

Hi Lavandula

Glad you have seen a naturopathic nutritionist! Sorry not to have been around for a day or two and just seen your post.

Nutri Ultra Muscleze is an excellent product - magnesium-based, in a balanced and easily absorbed form and good for helping muscular problems - many people are low on magnesium in UK and benefit from taking a supplement. I found it helpful for my fibromyalgia.

Vitamin D3 and zinc will help your immunity and the form the zinc complex is in is supposed to require smaller quantities because they are biotransformed by probiotic cultures allowing far better absorption. Omega oils will help reduce inflammation among other things.

So, I agree with what has been suggested. And yes, I'd wait until after the the test to take them, to avoid masking the situation when the test is done.

Hope it all works and that we hear of an improvement in your health in due course. Supplements help deal with the underlying causes rather than the symptoms.

Love Light and Healing

My opinion is a good balanced diet of fruit and veg is better than taking supplements, however it would depend on what you have been recommended the supplements for?
