Hello everyone,

I'm going to India on holiday in a few weeks and I'm looking for remedies that will help the prickly heat I usually get - [red itchy bumps and the feeling that a thousand pins are pricking me]

I've done some research and started to take beta carotene as I've heard this is good. I often have to resort to anti histamines and steroid cream but would much rather avoid these if possible. I've also read that urtica drops, urtica urens [is this ths same??] and Sol 30c can also be effective.

So my question is - has anyone any experience of these? Also should I take the lot or just one remedy?

I'd be so grateful for anyones help as this is an area I really know little about and I am on a mission to have a prickle free holiday!

Many thanks

Hi Delores,
Urtica urens (stinging nettle) and Sol, are both used as homeopathic remedies, The urtica would be more highly indicated for you, from what you've described, and can work really well at preventing those symptoms.
These remedies aren't available, to my knowledge, in pharmacies etc., and so you'd need to contact a homeopath. HTH Hom

Thank you so much for your reply, I shall find a local homeopath to get some before I go away.

Prickly Heat

Hi everyone

(Male / 39)

I've had prickly heat over the last few years, and it seems to be getting worse and worse as the years go by.
I've tried Antihistamines, medical talc, bacterial soap etc, and nothing seems to work.

I can sit in the sun no problem and take a realy tan, however, after 3-4 days in the sun it comes back with a bang.
I never get it in the UK only abroad, which makes me think its something to do with the sun tan cream and pores being blocked etc.

Someone told me to try a natural sun tan cream (such as Natural Tone i think it was called).

Any help or advice would be great as we're all going away in July and it really is a pain not being able to play with the kids etc in the sun whilst on holiday.

Thanks

Hello.
I am the same!!
2-3 days no problem whatsoever and than hitching and burning like hell. I never try antihistamine as I don t like to kill a protective reaction from the body to some form of allergen( which I haven t found yet!). In my case I think is the combination of seasalt and the air as it seems to get worse after bathing in the sea and better after washing it off. Use some aloe cream as it soothe the skin but cannot spend too much time on the beach riskin hell of a rush. Affect mainly softer areas like inside legs, forearm and strange enough, my scalp!.
Last holiday my back was on fire though.
I think next time I will try either Sol or Urtica( i think that was the name) as I am familiar with homeopathy and have a very well stocked homeopathic pharmacy near me.
Thank you Hom

Update

Hi Lele
Its good to know that you're not on your own with this!
I spent a couple of days in the sun over the weekend and now my skin is itching all over. I made sure i didnt use any sun cream as i wanted to see if it was the cream that was causing the problem.
Anyway, its not, and the prickly heat started again at the top of my chest / lower neck where it always starts.
Dont know what i'll do when our summer holiday abroad comes along in a few weeks.

The doctor has said to take an antihistamnine for 5 weeks before i go and stay out the sun!
Easier said than done when you've got kids wanting to play in the pool!!

Will look into that Urtica and Sol - cheers
