Hello everyone,
I posted this on the women's forum but had no luck, hope it's okay to double post it here.
I am 3 weeks post op after having a Hysterectomy Operation. I had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with both ovaries removed due to an Ovarian Cyst and severe Endometriosis. I am only 38 so have not had a natural Menopause yet, but my consultant doesn't really want to put me on HRT because of my age and I don't want to take it because HRT can cause Endometriosis to return. But I am starting with hot flushes, they are not to bad, they only last a few minutes, but I believe it may be the start.
I went to Holland & Barrett yesterday to see what "Natural" substances I can take to help prevent these, but I was just bombarded with lots of different remedies. Thought my best answers would come from here, so here's my question.
What is the best "natural" remedies to help with the Hot flushes, would also like something to help prevent Osteoporosis. Can you reccomend anything?

Hi Angel
Not an easy place to be for you right now - but hope it all works right for you in the end. I find it sad that the doctors can offer nothing but pharmaceuticals or nothing in your situation. There is much that can be done to help though.
May I suggest you have a lookfor help. While this is only general information it is useful for starters. I am sure you can contact Marilyn Glenville direct - she works with doctors in Harley Street, has her own practice, authors books and lectures on the subject of women's health, especially hormonal health - not only is she knowledgeable but very approachable. She impressed me enormously both at college and on further training days.
In my experience, sugar is a big problem with hot flushes and also endometriosis. I'd really try to cut it out altogether - not easy, I know from experience, but makes a big difference. The other is caffeine - coffee, colas, tea, etc. It actually causes the release of stored sugar into the bloodstream so has a similar effect to sugar.
If you like I can put you in touch with someone in either Harrogate or Leeds if you wanted to see someone nearer with the skills to be able to help you individually - just pm me.
Wishing you all the best,, and hope you get sorted soon.
Caoline, thank yo so much for your help hun, I will be sure to check it all out. I didn't know Sugar makes things worse...that could explain why I get them worse at night time, tend to have the odd chockie treat at night. I'll stop that now. There's so much litriture out there, I just don't know where to start reading. I'll contact Marilyn Glenville and see what advice she can offer.
Thanks again.

The ayurvedic herb Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari) is rich in phyto-oestrogens which is why it is often prescribed for menopausal symptoms particularly if there is an associated risk of osteoporosis.
