Hi,
I have bought some Arnica tablets (200c) to use during labour and was hoping for some advice on the best way to use it. Eg. when is the best time to start taking it/how frequently/how much and when to stop? I think the person selling it to me was saying I can take as much as I want and there's no limit on the dosage but she was a bit rushed and I'm not sure if I got this right?

Also, what is the best way to store Arnica? I live in a hot country and wondered if it's ok/better to keep it in the fridge until I need it?

Sorry for all the questions!
Many thanks

RE: How do I take Arnica during Labour?

I'm not a homeopath - I hope one picks up on this thread to give more detailed info. I just dabble in homeopathic remedies for myself and family. It seems a very potent (200c) arnica for use in such an acute (shorter but sudden) situation - I've comes across the use of 6c or 30c for these situations.

As a midwife I came across the use of arnica by women in my care and have just checked in a book for you - it is primarily an accident remedy - for shock, heamorrhage and bruising, so any situations bearing these descriptions arnica is applicable.
During pregnancy, use if you feel unbearably bruised form baby kicking.
For labour - it is recommended to use when you get fearful or tired towards the end of 1st stage - helps tired achey muscles, just take one IF you need it, can be taken every 5- 10 minutes if required - BUT don't take them if you don't and don't take extra as a preventative measure. It is recommended in 2nd stage again for tired muscles - over exertion, feeling exhausted and can't push - again take as necessary.
After delivery it can be taken to counteract any trauma - grazes, stitches, bruising. Also it is advised before and after surgery so if a ceasarian is required. 1 pillule 3 x per day for a couple of days afterwards.

Again I stress that when I've come across it's use in these situations and in the books I've read, it is usually the 6c or 30c potency that are mentioned. As far as I understand, 200c works at a deeper constitutional level, so I'm not sure how useful it will be for you.

Sorry re storage - I'm not sure about heat being an issue (I've never had to worry, living in N. England). But store away from strong smells!!! (- I'm an aromatherapist so ensure my homeopathic remedies are kept away from essential oils.) Coffee and Peppermint are particularly detrimental so make sure they're not stored with your remedies in the fridge.

RE: How do I take Arnica during Labour?

Hi there,
I'm a homeopath and I think the existing replies givesound advice. It is more usual though,to take a 30c potency, especially if not being prescribed under the directions of a homeopath. However, a 200c is ok- I'm assuming it's been given to you by someone that knows a bit about your health.- If not, it might be wise to have just one appointment with a homeopath who can get to know you a bit and give you more detailed advice.
Arnica is used for bruising, bleeding and pain, also for trauma to the body and emotional trauma/shock. So you can see that it is very applicable at all stages of labour and also after childbirth for a few days at least.

Ideally, you should not keep the pills in a fridge or anywhere exceptionally cold. Even if it's hot, they'll be fine, although they need to be out of direct sunlight.Try to keep them away from strong smells, eg food, makeup, cosmetics, perfume, and separatefrom your mobile phone.
Good luck! Hom

Hi,

Thanks vetiveria and Hom your replies, they've been really helpful. I actually bought the arnica from a qualified homeopath in a shop but have not had a consultation. I don't know if taking what now seems like such a high dose would have a detremental affect, but after considering your replies I think I would feel better making an appointment.
Thankyou!

Definitely worth having a consultation!

I used a childbirth kit available from [link= https://www.helios.co.uk/homeopathic_remedy_kits.html ]https://www.helios.co.uk/homeopathic_remedy_kits.html[/link]with my homeopath on the phone to my mum (who was my birth partner for my 3rd child after my hubby bottled out!) to advise what to take and when.

I found it a great help, she gave me advise before hand, so I had a rough idea, but to be able to have up to date info with the remedies at hand was invaluable.

Good luck!

Karen
edit to note that all the remedies in the childbirth kit are 200c potency.

How do I take Arnica during Labour?

The why is rather obvious. The less bruising, bleeding, afterpain and trauma, the sooner you can start having fun with the baby, and the happier the baby will be, too. If a c-section becomes necessary, that’s all the more reason to use Arnica. In technical terms, Arnica is generally recommended to reduce the fatigue, bruising, and trauma of labor; to control bleeding, prevent hemorrhaging, and minimize the strain on soft tissues. After childbirth, it eases afterpains, assists in the contraction of the uterus and relieves retention of urine after long labor. For more details, see the materia medica listings on this website.Midwife MJ Hanafin, who has delivered more than 150 babies and taught many many midwives to deliver babies holistically, touts Arnica frequently in her teaching manuals. “No woman or baby should be without the trauma minimizing support of Arnica during childbirth…
