RE: Glaucoma

Hi
I have read that acupuncture gets really good results with glaucoma and lowers pressure.i've seen some data from the States. But I have to be honest, I work in ophthalmology and its not something I have seen used in this area to good effect myself. I know if I had glaucoma I would try anything, but I would still be taking any eye drops I'd been prescribed- our sight is such aprecious thing.
All the best,
Delores [sm=animal-smiley-085.gif]

RE: Glaucoma

Hi Delores-

Thank you for your response. I religiously take my eye drops every day. My doctor's concern and mine is that the pressure in one eye is not coming down as he would like and he feels surgery may be the only choice. Even with optic nerve damage and vision loss prior to treatment, my vision has improved from 20/80 to 20/25 due to the herbs and supplements I'm taking for cancer. So with that in mind, I was wondering if anyone had experience in this area. Thanks again.

RE: Glaucoma

Hello, I to have Glaucoma, came as a heck of a shock I can tell you, try my hardest not to think about it sometimes or I willworry myself to death. How long have you had this, and what drops do you take? As a matter of interest how do your eyes feel? Is your eyesight affected at all? My eyesight appears fine at the moment but my eyes in general feel weird to say the least, that is why I went for a check up in the first place. I see the specialist again in January, the pressure in my left eye was a little higher than the right. At last check up they were both 17 but doc says he wants them down to very low teens. When I first went they were 30! I have not heard of any alternatives to help ease pressure but will ask my specialist when I see him.

I wish you well and would be interested to know how you get on. [sm=nature-smiley-008.gif]

RE: Glaucoma

Hi Jeannie-

Mine was discovered a few years ago. The eye doctor I had at the time totally missed it-said I was 'borderline'-yeah,right! My 'good' eye is 15, 'bad' eye is 22. Never got higher than 22. I take Cosopt and Xalatan-recently he substituted Lumigan for Xalatan to get the pressure down. My eyes feel fine-maybe it was due to the very high pressure you had. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but few doctors recognize alternative methods which is why I put the post here. I think the bilberry and gingko I take helped to improve my vision. My best to you also.

Let's stay in touch.

RE: Glaucoma

Hello again, I take Ginko as well but did not associate it with eyesight, don't think it can actually help Glaucoma though. A warning to others out there not to neglect eye tests, I have always had good eyesight, never had to wear glasses (still don't). I take Duotrav, but as said before most of the time my eyes feel odd like gloopy ball bearings in my eye sockets, consicious of them all the time, one positive outcome though is my eyelashes are to die for!!! I noticed you are from Ohio, what is life like there?

ESSENTIAL OILS & EYE DISORDERS

CAUTION: Never put any essential oils in the eyes or on eyelids.
Blocked Tear Ducts
Single Oils:
Lavender

EO Applications:
1 drop lavender oil rubbed over the bridge of the nose has been reported to work in seconds.
Cataracts and Glaucoma
Cataracts are a clouding of the eye lens that often comes with aging. Glaucoma is a condition caused by an abnormal buildup of intraocular pressure in the eye.

Single Oils:
Clove, lavender

Clove oil is the most powerful known antioxidant and when taken internally it can slow or prevent both cataracts and glaucoma.

EO Application:

INGESTION:
[blockquote]
CAPSULE, 0 size 2-3 times daily[/blockquote]
Blends:
Eye blend #1:

  • 10 drops lemongrass
  • 5 drops cypress
  • 3 drops Eucalyptus radiata

Eye blend #2:

  • 10 drops lemon
  • 5 drops cypress
  • 3 drops Eucalyptus radiata

EO Applications:

TOPICAL:
[blockquote]
DILUTE 20-80, apply 2-4 drops in a wide circle around the eye, being careful not to get any oil in the eye or on the eyelid,1-3 times daily. This may also help with puffiness. Also apply on temples and eye Vita Flex points on the feet and hands (the undersides of your two largest toes and your index and middle fingers.)[/blockquote]
NOTE: If essential oils should ever accidentally get into the eyes, dilute with V-6 Advanced Oil Complex or other pure vegetable oil. NEVER rinse with water.

Dietary Supplementation:
Alpha lipoic acid, Essential Omegas, Mineral Essence, Longevity Caps, AD&E, VitaGreen
Selenium supports the eyes. Mineral Essence is a good source of all minerals, including selenium. AD&E is beneficial for all eye problems.

RE: Glaucoma

Thank you Rich for the information provided. I WILL act upon it since I am a very strong believer in natural and holistic methods.

Jeannie, Ohio can be quite warm and toasty in the summer months and get into the 90 degree range (don't have celsius for you) and it gets quite cold in the winter, sometimes going below zero. So we do have a wide range of weather here. My two sons will bearriving from California tomorrow for a visit. They will be greeted with cold and rain....brrrrrr.

Take care.

RE: Glaucoma

jeannie, you had said to let you know how I was doing with the glaucoma. It appears the the Lumigan he prescribed for me has worked to some degree and lowered the eye pressure in the 'bad' eye to 19, which he feels is a great improvement. Would like to get it lower, but we're making progress. Thanks for your concern.

Best to you!
