There was a sample teabag stuck on the outside of a recent H&B magazine. I knew (and still know) nothing about it - so I tried it. It gave me diarrhea... prompting me to conclude that it is a laxative tea. The cramps that folk experience will (I'm assuming) be from the laxative effect of the tea stimulating peristalisis of the intestines. There are other slimming teas which contain the laxative herb cascara, which have the same effect. I think there is a long history of giving laxatives to overweight people to prompt weightloss.

It is most definately a laxative!! It is also very dehydrating. One of my clients over used it, and ended up in A&E and spent 3 days on a drip, when trying to lose weight just before Christmas. I can't find any warnings on the packaging.

I was going to say that high speed weight loss is usually due to water loss. Dehydration can come from both the diarrhoea and from a diuretic effect. I didn't try the tea as I was doubtful about it anyway!

NOT a good way to lose weight!!

Ahh, the double whammy: a diuretic and a laxative. So the folk who buy it are just losing water and faeces.

[Edit: synchronicity, Caroline! I completely agree with you.]

I personally think those chinese style teas are dangerous. I tried it a few years ago.......never off the loo, very antisocial effects, and....because it completely emptied my sytem of everything I ended up with extremely dry itchy skin and internal PH imbalance!! We live and learn..:o

Is there a reason why you're not able to eat a healthy diet, and do some exercise? That's a far safer and reliable way to lose excess weight (and, as far as I know the =only= way to lose weight) - plus you'll improve your general health, your mood, and your body shape at the same time.

Sorry - 10 lbs in a week is loss mostly of fluid. It is highly unlikely to be fat loss. Precipitate weight loss after fluid is likely to be muscle loss (much heavier than fat). A suitable diet and exercise (as Ava advocates) is the only way to go and a good loss is 2lbs per week - that is sustainable until reaching near a suitable goal.

A good weight loss diet is not just a 'diet' - it should become one's eating philosophy, preferably for life, in order to maintan the weight loss. Otherwise as soon as you stop the 'diet' the weight just piles back on, often even more than one loses in the first place.

I wouldn't advocate the drinking of a herbal tea that causes diarrhoea and fluid loss at any time for weight loss.

I never tried that but did physical exercise a lot every morning. I also control on my diet and started taking proactol diet pills. I have lost my weight about 11.6 pound in 3-4 months. Now i am conscious, i will not eat fatty things and will often control on my food that i take.
