Placebos have bee shown to work in various situations. One of the latest that I read about was Placebo surgery were a knee surgeon only pretended to operate on the patient's knee, yet this produced similar recoveries as patients who had had conventional invasive surgery.
This to me suggests that the mind can control the body not only its mental state but its physical state.
So how come medical trials of a new drug for instance use placebos as a blind to compare the effectiveness of the drug under trial.
Surely the patients, or volunteers taking the placebo would experience a similar success rate (or even higher) as the people on the trial drug.
I'm a bit confused.
I have always felt that mind and its role in recovery should be exploited to the maximum.
Yet it is dismissed in the name of 'scientific' methods.
If our medical science was entirely about health and not with treating the disease, then that would be perhaps the case. But all our medical know how and medical care is about tackling the disease once it's has set in. Our concept of health is not a wee bit about health, it's all about disease. Our medical system seems too invested in 'scientific means' to care for an invisible force, such as mind, thoughts, deep belief to play a major role. It is dismissed as placebo, and not deemed entirely credible method to restore and establish health.
I personally feel of placebo does it, then that is the medicine. Get to the balance no matter how...just get there! But perhaps that is too simplistic and childlike for our scientific researchers?
True medical advancement would be preventive in nature rather than waiting for disease to take hold and then struggle to get rid of them. In the mean time the diseases seem to be getting more numerous and more powerful by the day and more people falling sick...
The roots of all our knowledge are in the deepest of ignorance...sadly.

Fortunately or unfortunately as the case may be it is the drug companies that control research into illness. In all fairness drugs have played a significant part in providing health for many. However in my mind this will never change unless a fundamental miss understanding is corrected.
The miss understanding I'm refereeing to is the use of the word "spiritual"
all too often spiritual is mentioned when energy is the true understanding.
Metaphysics somehow ties spiritual understanding to material understanding, but what is spiritual understanding. The common perception is the unknown, the occult or condescendingly- wacky.
If spirit was understood as energy then this opens up a complete new ball game.
Energy can be potential therefore it has no limits. This falls perfectly in line with Christian understanding of a God person or a creator.
Energy can be transformed into matter (Einstein's E=MC*2)
So if people could refocus there understanding and see ideas and thoughts as just potential energy then material happenings can happen as in my opinion the placebo effect demonstrates.

The one that always makes me laugh is when the scientific community dismiss complementary therapies, such as homeopathy, as "quackery, doesn't work, and nothing more than placebo" when they themselves indicate that placebo effect is known to cause people to improve or heal from their health condition. If it's helping a person, then it's working whether the true cause of that is placebo or the underlying principles that they don't understand.
🙂

Homeopathy must be the most complex science around. Far in advance of standard medicine.
I try to understand it in relation to my "early radio" days where maximum transfer of energy and matching impedances were taught.
To me the principle of Homeopathic treatment is to try and match the frequency of the energy in the applied dose to the correct energy frequency that the diseased organ or system requires.
It is working at molecule level and is similar to matching a TV aerial to the TV signal that is being sent from the transmitter. When the match is correct the maximum energy is transferred.
The person practicing Homeopathy has to A, decide on the correct materials that will "resonate" at the correct frequency for the molecules in the defective tissue and B, dilute the dosage to a level that provides maximum energy transfer.
String theory suggests that energy levels in the order of 10 to the -25 are required but there are suggestions that some energies exist in the order of 10 to the -50.
In my opinion People who scoff that the energy dilution in a standard homeopathy dose renders the dosage nothing more that a memory effect are sorely mistaken. From an energy transfer point of view the more that a Homeopathic dosages is diluted will only down bring it closer to the required molecular level and can only increases the transfer of energy of the dose.
Placebos work on a similar energy transfer principle but it is the mind that generates the potency.

Lots of what we are lead to believe as science is nothing but Scientific superstition or pseudo science
. 'Science' is a highjacked process in some shape or form. Science can be used to deny or promote certain methodologies, because people who fund 'science' have a certain inclination...
It is just way too attached to what it deems as scientific methods and testing etc
True science is meant to stay open to possibilities...
Modern science especially the medical one dismisses the role of mind is derailed from the very essence of science...interestingly quantum physics fully appreciates the role of mind observing the experiment. So there....
Medical science in dismissal of the role of mind in the disease as well as the cure, is still obviously stuck in the juvenile stage of evolution.
If science was really scientific, it will endeavor to fully explore and exploit the role of mind in curing disease not just treating with drugs, surgery and other means. Not only that, it will eventually progress to a stage where prevention of disease becomes the core role of medical science.
....well that's not happening any time soon! And we know why the role of placebo, mind, is laughed at, dismissed and ridiculed

I do think that there is starting to appear a light on the horizon.
I was just reading about a simple wearable device that may help to reduce hay fever.
It is described as applying pressure on a pressure point in the arm. It identifies Chi and the pressure point itself. The description goes on to explain that the pressure point effects the energy in the face and neck. This device has sold out.
To me this shows that people are prepared to consider other sciences, and are getting more and more used to ideas and principles that are not normally taught in our western schools.
It may not be long before the Quantum people and the energy people realise that they are just seeing different sides of the same coin.
