Hi guys
Just wondered if any hypnotherapists or psychotherapists used GSR meters and what your thoughts are on them. We were recommended on our hypnotherapy course to get one but I didn't whilst training but not i've finished my course I thought I'd look in to them in a bit more detail. Would be good to hear how people get on with them, what clients think of them being used, etc. Thanks in advance

I have one......... in the back of a cupboard somewhere! My original trainer also has one......... in the back of a cupboard somewhere!

I used it a few times mainly with phobia clients but by setting up IMR's with the client or asking them to speak back, the usefulness of the GSR soon vanishes (I'm more for IMRs than clients speaking anyway as I record all my sessions and give the client the CD).

Frankly, I don't feel that I need it so I quickly stopped using it, I originally bought it due to one client in particular I was working with where I wasn't using it in it's normal context anyway (long story). I don't know how much they cost now, if I remember correctly mine was about £100 four or five years ago. I don't envisage using it again but in the unlikely event that I feel the need then at least I have it.

Edited to add: I forgot to mention, although I only used it with a handful of clients, over 50% weren't keen on it which is probably more important than my above points!

Thanks Bannick for your reply. I will think very carefully before getting one - as you say they are around £100 which is quite a lot of money if it's only going to sit in my cupboard!
