Interesting thoughts on here re Tantra and Tantric Massage. I have a view and it may not be universally popular or indeed, correct. I havethree basic massages that I provide, Swedish, Tantric (if you like) and the thing that came out of the machine on "the fly" which is a blend of the two.

My view is that if you are providing tantric massage to someone who has never been exposed to tantra, the subtleties will be lost. You can't teach someone how to breathe, understand chakras and move energy in five minutes and then give them a "tantric" massage. So the question is does tantric massage become erotic massage due to the clients level or lack of understanding or training? If tantra is about pleasure, not a debate I want to start, then you may say does it really matter.

My point simply is that the same massage may mean different things to different people and the nature and level of enjoyment, understanding and reactions will be as varied as in other forms of massage.

I am wondering whether some therapists say they practice tantric massage without the proper training. It is then often just an excuse for some sexual contact. I am sure however that with the correct training and understanding, it could indeed be a very positive experience. If anyone knows where to receive proper training, do let us know.

Yes there a few people in the UK who provide training in tantric massage. The most enjoyable experience though may be to join a weekend of tantra run by people like Skydancing or Helen at Tantra north. There is some massage involved in these weekends but more importantly its an introduction to tantra and I think that has to come first.

Has anyone any experience (in London area) with 'legitimate' therapists offering tantric massage? Used to have regular massages while living in Paris -- nothing to do with sex, but everything to do with blissed out receiving for a couple of hours that would leave me floating for hours and sometimes days...

This is a very interesting subject and one that keeps popping up for me - synchronicity and all that! Think I too must do some research:)

I don't think I would be looking to do tantric massage as a therapy[sm=hidesbehindsofa.gif] - but it could come in handy for some lucky man at some point [sm=nuts.gif], and indeed I could use the knowledge in some holistic way with clients (thinking life coaching, counselling) I am sure.[sm=jump1.gif]

I had the pleasure of Deidre's company on a training course a few years back, lovely woman! The prices? Seem reasonable to me ... for London. When I worked in a therapy centre in Hammersmith they were about what we charged. If people will pay it then that is all the justification that is needed.

Here Here Well said Mat. People need to be educated to understand that one aspect of quality is limited supply. To keep up quality there needs to be moderate client numbers, and I am afraid higher prices.

Seems to me to be a shortage of Tantric masseurs - I have had responses from people who are not trained but 'sort of know the ropes' and will give it a try. I am not sure this is good enough. Maybe masseurs find this area of training a bit too intimate for them. For us girls - well when you have had children and had your legs up in stirups fr 40 mins with a doctor poking your cut and tornbits back in to the jigsaw to stitch you up, nothing would bother me in that area. Sorry if this is too graphic for some - don't think it would bother switch though - he's a guy of course!

I really want to find some more trained tantric masseurs in Lodon area - they are a bit thin on the ground.

I think some therapists who offer tantric massage use their massage experience and intuition and as you say - some "'sort of know the ropes' and will give it a try”

I may be wrong about this, but I don't believe there exists official training in Britain and/or qualification in tantric massage. Anyone who gives tantric massage or trains people, may have trained in various eastern and western massage techniques. They would probably have an understanding of human psychology - much more than the gynaecological procedures you describe. They may have read books or studied Tantra from various teachers, masters.

Training on the Continent in aspects tantric massage I understand the most important quality a therapist needs to have: a unique capacity to offer unconditional love, intimacy and a genuine radiant quality of touch.

Andre - I have had offers from masseurs who know something about Tantra and are willing to 'give it a try' if I am. I wonder if this is just going to be a masseur having a 'grope' around my 'private parts'. I have found a few tantric masseurs from recommendation from someone who seems to be reliable and has integrity but they are hard to find as you say.

Well hi everyone, a very intresting topic this, but also one that lots of people are using to bring down the tone of massage, the backstreet massage parlours are now using tantra as a cover for their seedy massages by untrained people. the frre i have is that people who are offering the genuine service will be tarnished with the same brush when the authorities clamp down on this what do you all feel?
