Is anyone else sick and tired of being catagorised alond side those offering sexual services in online directories?

I've just been on Touch Local and looked up Massage Milton Keynes. Up come a load of escort agencies and the like. Then underneath all of those listings come all the genuine therapists.

I know it will probably do absolutely no good whatsoever, but I've emailed Touch Local with my feelings on the matter.

Hi Nefra

Its the same with me living in Grimsby. I wonder how they get up so far in the rankings. It is not fair on the professional therapists out there.

I hope you get a response from Touch Local!

I got an automated thing saying they'll respond within 5 days, so I'll keep you posted. I wondered if they paid to upgrade their listing and that's why they're at the top.

I just don't think they should be allowed to catagorise themselves as massage. They should come under personal services or something.

It really annoys me. I do sports and remedial massage, it's not in the slightest bit sexual and I really object to being grouped with escort agencies.

I've had a reply already! They have asked if adding a catagory of alternative therapies will help, as they are unable to change the catagory of listings that have been paid for.

If I can move my listing away from the escort agencies, I'm happy with that!

Sounds like a plan... you may want to ask them to name it 'complementary' therapies rather than alternative therapies, I'm not sure, to me 'complementary' sounds more enclusive. Or maybe 'holistic' therapies, I doubt many 'escort' agencies etc would think about advertising there!

Hi Nefra

That is a good result but think rather than differentiating what we do they need to have a heading called "escort" for those agencies.

I know, but she says because they've paid for their memberships, they can't move them. Seems that there's rather a lot of them! Must be doing well to be paying £25 a month for their listing.

I did say in my initial email to them that they should be catagorised as personal services or something similar.

There should be some sort of legislation that prevents them doing that. But then I suppose as there's no regulation of massage therapists nothing can be done about it. Kinda sucks me thinks.

Well done Nefra. If they are prepared to add another catagory I'll have another think about using Touch Local.

If they can't provide massage doesn't that constitue illegal advertising? If all the proper therapists got together to bring a lawsuit against them they would soon change where they advertised.

It also made me wonder, as aparently us brits aren't good complainers, how many people have ended up with an aromatherapy massage, when they were expecting something else.:rollaugh:

I've just done a search on Local Touch for massage for my post code and it came up with only 4 adverts for escorts the rest of the 33 were all complentary therapy type massage. So I guess it must be different depending on what area you live.

However, out of those who advertise on Local Touch, do you get many leads?

Myarka.

I've only just started using it to be honest, but it people have to trawl through the escort agencies to find me, then it's unlikely I'll get any leads from it.

They've emailed me back again and said that they won't be able to change it straight away, but they'll flag it up with their management. If everyone on here that uses Touch Local contacts them about it, we're more likely to get something done.

Touch Local list a lot of businesses without their knowledge using lists from Companies House etc. A business I owned as a dormant company was listed on there and which had the registered office as my home address. I emailed Touch Local and asked them to remove the information, I never received a reply but they did remove it.

However, out of those who advertise on Local Touch, do you get many leads?

1 lead in three years, I also used to pay for their sponsored listings for one of those years. TBH, the site is a waste of webspace!

Edit: I just looked on Touch Local for Massage in Manchester and about 30% of them are escorts.
