hi, new member here,
I have a friend who is Russian and has trained in massage therapy in her own country.
It is termed "medical massage" and she would welcome any advice or information with regard to her status in the Uk in terms of her qualifications:insurance etc ,should she wish to practice, either voluntarily or for an income.
I havnt had much chance to speak to her at any length due to our study commitments at present, but i have advised her to contact bodies such as the fht or local f.e. colleges as to status and accredited prior learning etc.
If by chance we have a Russian practitioner with us ,please reply!!
thanks a lot!:)
RE: russian massage therapy
Hi Ruby
Welcome to the forum
The LCSP deals with medical massage but your friend might find that she needs to do a short course to make sure she is up to speed before that give her membership.
But she can set up on her own with out being a member of any of the organisations at the moment and as long as she gets insurance for remedial massage therapy and makes sure she is not contravening any local bylaws then she should be all right.
She can get insurance through SMG professional insurance.
RE: russian massage therapy
I would recommend that your friend goes through IPTI (independent professional therapists international) as they offer insurance and membership, and its always best to be with an organisation that deals with all types of training.

RE: russian massage therapy
I too would recommend the IPTI. They are very good at considering each case individually and are supportive of anyone who does therapies that are a little different to 'the norm'.

RE: russian massage therapy
Hi Ruby
LCSP = London and Counties Society of Physiologists (see their website ). They aren't specifically a 'sports therapy' organisation: they describe themselves as an 'organisation of private practitioners of remedial massage and manipulative therapy', which goes rather wider than just 'sports therapy'.
