Hi
I've had a query about doing a fully body massage on a client who is 36 weeks pregnant. I've never massaged a pregnant lady before, even thought we were told on our course that it's not a problem to do it, except in the first trimester. Does anybody have any advice or tips or areas that I should avoid? Any help would be appreciated. ta very much.
Make sure you have plenty of pillows available to help make her comfortable. She won't be able to lie flat on her back (can cut off blood supply to the baby) so make sure she is slightly propped up if she is on her back. Most of the massage will probably be done side-lying.
Probably best to avoid firm pressure around the ankles and lower legs, as there are some acupuncture points there that can bring on labour.
