Hi All

When you are working away from your usual working premises, e.g. mobile work, do you carry first aid kits with you?

Are therapists obliged to?

Thanks, 🙂 x

Therapists are not obliged to carry a first aid kit. If you're not a qualified first aider, then you shouldn't do first aid as a therapist, i.e. in the workplace. But there's nothing stopping you from doing the basic HSE first aid at work course, and then you will know what you need to carry and what you can do, etc.

I do my first aid qualification with St John's and have to requalify every 3 years.

HTH,
Myarka.

Under the terms and conditions of being a member of the IFPA I have to have a valid 1st Aid Cert. and as a 1st Aider I always carry a small single use kit with me when ever I home visit. I also have one in clinic. If you're qualified it makes sense to carry a small kit with you.

Cheers, Sue

Thats a very good point to raise. I think I'll get into the habit of packing one.

I think anyone working on their own (ie not in a group/office situation) should have a 1st aid qual as a matter of common sense: after all, offices etc have to have a stipulated number. Fun qual to get (the St John Ambulance FAW courses are great-empowering, fun, a bit scary..) and of course would count in your CPD file for your CThA membership. Even just knowing you could help a bit is good - 1st Aid is actually only JUST first response.

And yes, I do have a kit in the car.
