Salutations to all

I am currently treating someone who has problems sleep, back and neck. I worked on her back/shoulders and managed to shift her pain. However the next day she rung me to say she had a migrain. It seems when I massaged her the pressure seemed to shift and caused her migrain. I was wondering if any of you wonderful people had any tips for next time, as it is not my intention to get rid of one pain and replace with another.
I have used white tiger balm in the past to treat migrains, this is fine it the patient is at home, but give the smell tiger balm this not good in a social situation!

Hi

Sometimes massage can cause headaches or migraine, it is like a 'healing crisis', a result of all the toxins being pushed out of the system. Sometimes we have to get through some 'negative symptoms' as healing takes place. It happens with detox too, quite often people on detox diets have headaches as the body clears out it's systems.

As for prevention, I would advise her to drink plenty of water throughout the day before the next massage, and avoid caffeine and stimulants. If someone has frequent migraines it could be related to their diet, or caused by stress, so it is best to check with a doctor if they become frequent.
