I have often wondered what % of people prefer massages naked or with underwear on so have decided to carry out this survey.
Could users please answer the following or direct me to where i can find such details, many thanks.
1) What % of your clients keep their undies on during a massage, what % prefer nude but covered in a towel, and what % are happiest being massaged whilst completely naked?
2) Is there any difference in % between male and female clients? (also are you male or female)
3) Have you detected any shift in %s (i suspect that more people nowadays prefer nude).
Personally. on my first experience of a massage i kept my undies on but the lady still pulled them down during the treatment so next time i went naked and found it a lot more comfortable an experience so since then i have firmly been in the Nude camp.
Am i in the majority or the minority/ Alistair.
"i never really thaught about the client being more comfortable without their undies maybe i can mention to my regulars."
Please let us know what the reactions are, it would also be very interesting if other therapists were to also give their clients the choice and to report back to this forum.
As a client i think i would have appreciated such a choice in the beginning as it would have saved me the worry and aprehension about offending the therapist by breaking any taboos.
Being naked for massage treatment is best but not all therapists will let you be naked
I mostly prefer my clients to be nude, but do offer a choice.
just wondered if being massaged naked your eyes are closed relaxing the masseur would look at breasts and genitals, so if it was me I would keep my eyes open all the time! how do I know because i peeped and saw her looking !!I was fully clothed luckily.
on the other hand it be difficult not to look.

The first massage I had I left my underpants on then the therapists ask me the next time to take them off and it was a better massager she put a towel over my private bits. When she retired I saw 6 or 7 therapists untill I founed one that let me take my underwear off
Most 70% of my clients are nude, both male and female. I do offer them the choice on the intake sheet to have full drape, towels only, no drape. 5% choose no drape, about 20% choose towels and the rest full drape. I respect the boundaries my clients put up.

morst of customers are nake, that is more nuture. more comfortable.
Hmmmm.....interesting thread. Over the years I've had several dozen massages, 99 per cent of which where conducted with me wearing only my underpants (which, in my experience, tends to be the default expectation), and I've had no problems with this.
Even here though, I've found marked differences in the masseuse's (I've invariably had female therapists) attitude to gluteal massage; some avoid massaging the buttocks altogether, others do it through a towel (AND underpants), others expose the buttocks only while massaging them, while, one, a Finnish masseuse I used to visit, perfectly logically, considered the gluteal muscles to be an extension of those in the lower back, so left the buttocks exposed all the while she was massaging my neck, shoulders and back.
Anyway, very recently, I had a different experience, with a masseuse I was visiting for the first time. I asked her what level of undressing she was expecting, and she said it was up to me, and that there were towels under the massage couch that I could cover myself with.
So, I undressed completely, and lay face down on the bed with a towel strategically placed. Thus, the massage began, and in due course, the masseuse arrived at my gluteals, which she began massaging through the towel. After a minute or so of this, which, frankly, I found faintly ludicrous, I suggested to her that she could remove the towel if she preferred, and she duly did so, with the remainder of the massage continuing with myself naked (and undraped).
I must admit, that I found this a strangely liberating experience, and the masseuse seemed completely comfortable with the situation, chatting with me amiably throughout, while continuing to give a first-class, professional massage.
All that said, I can understand other therapists' uneasiness with such a scenario, and, to be sure, there has to be mutual consent and trust between the parties. All I can say, is that my experience with this particular masseuse was a wholly positive one, and I'll certainly be returning to her some time in the future.
I think again it depends also on what the client is being treated for. I'm probably repeating in some way what has already been said, but it might be necessary for the client to be massaged without underpants on. They might need areas around the groin addressing (and I don't mean in a sexual way :p) which would not be possible with clothes on. They could have problems there due to their job, lifestle, sport, injuries etc and as a therapist whose aim is to release muscle pain and tension etc you need to get, shall we say, up close and personal around that area. As long as both of you are aware that it is not a sexual experience and is actually for therapeutic good then there shouldn't be a problem.

Many thanks for all the feedback i have read since i opened this thread. It seems that after one has taken the plunge and had a naturist massage, then there is no going back to ones with undies on!
Is there anyone out there who has tried a naturist massage but NOT preferred it and has therefore gone back to wearing undies?
I have either nude or just wearing a string.I have found if im nude then i seem to get covered up more so i keep my undies on and have less towel coverage.
Just after having a lovely Swedish massage treatment today. Therapist advised me before it as to how she would like me to be prepared when she returned to room, left pants on and she draped towels as were required then.
no pants?
I am a LomiLomi bodywork practitioner, and would love for all my clients to just feel as comfortable as possible, therefore getting to maximum relaxation quickly. I have offered clients the choice of keeping pants on in the past, explaining that traditionally the massage is received with no underpants on (there are lovely long flowing strokes that are impeded with underwear). Some clients choose to keep covered up with pants (even though they are also draped) and I feel that this all just adds to a weird kind of tension around this whole subject. I have now come to the conclusion that its better to just ask my clients to keep underpants ON and work around them. Interesting to read peoples thoughts on this as I know that this work is so much better with no clothes on.... but if clients feel uncomfortable then its counterproductive. Would be interested to know peoples thoughts more on this.

I am very happy to have treatment with pants off as am well aware of it being in way for long strokes. However, if therapist is over sensitive or whatever, I'm happy to wear it.
When receiving a massage like lomi lomi, deep tissue or sports i tend to wear a genital pouch so best of both worlds i guess
I have a therapist colleague that I massage regularly, sometimes she prefers to keep undies on, sometimes not. It's a personal choice for the receiver, depending on the mood at the time.

I am a Lomilomi practitioner and have just returned from a Hawaiian festival in Inzell, Germany. The festival lasted over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Most people attending were from Germany where Lomilomi is much more popular than here in the UK. Apart from the workshops on various aspects of Ancient Hawaiian culture and customs there were workshops on Lomilomi. As it was a glorious weekend lots of people had there tables outside and most were working four handed. Without exception, all receivers were nude and only covered with a loin cloth. The great majority of people worked on a bear table so as to work under the body which you can't do if you have sheets on the table. Loin cloths invariable slipped and were re adjusted without fuss. My point is, There were a lot of naked bodies about and no one thought it was unusual. It was a very refreshing experience after the narrow body concious attitudes we have in this country. I can't wait for next years festival.
Hi there, I enjoyed reading your message i have had a massage before with undies on but pulled down i live in scotland the there dont seem to be any that do nude as i would love to try it .I am a wheelchair user and it helps my back as am sitting all day do you know of any in scotland that do nude massage please
Nude or not
I found this thread interesting so I thought I'd add my experiences which I hope are of interest to others.
I practice a form of massage which is a mix of shiatsu and swedish (hence Swiatsu) and find about 40% of women and about 90% of men will opt to go nude of their own volition - I never suggest to go either nude or not to clients. I do prefer nude however as I find it less erotic. I am male and if a girl is wearing a small pair of knickers - or a revealing pair of french knickers, then my curiosity is (naturally I think) aroused. If however everything is exposed then there is no 'mystery' and I can get on with the job of doing the massage. I'm pretty sure other masseurs will recognise this scenario. That said, I qualified with ITEC and I did learn and practice all the towel management techniques and it is very effective in keeping all areas covered up while not being massaged and that provides a degree of professionalism and respect for the client which I think is very important. Some people would not like being exposed and I would not want to get (nor never have) into an awkward situation where a client felt embarrassed. There is also the chill factor - the towels keep the client cosy and draught free. However some clients really seem to enjoy being naked in a non-sexually inviting way- perhaps to 'let go' in a small and private way- where they may well be getting a secret thrill but would not want to progress onto any form of sexuall activity. I think this is especially true in the UK society where we are so repressed in many ways - including not even being willing to admit to this scenario. I believe I am a vehicle to allow some clients to feel released and I in turn quite like being able to share that liberation and I usually end a day of massage feeling very relaxed and de-stressed - even though perhaps a little tired after giving 6 or so massages!
I would consider going nude myself while giving massage if it was in an environment where nudity is the norm - i.e. a nude resort or nudist event - and the client does not assume that nudity will lead to some form of sexual activity In a clothed environment however, I think me being nude is likely just to detract from me being able to focus on and enjoy giving the massage.
I suppose it depends on the type of massage you are there for.
It depends on my mood. Most of the time I think it's better to keep my undies on. 🙂
Well speaking as someone who does Indian Head massage......which involves more than the head....I agree that clothes can get in the way. I would be happy to take my clothes off.....but I WOULD expect a modesty towel . I would not want to lie nude in front of a masseur of either sex. I would be happy to have my glutes massaged tho.....
I have had lomi lomi massage and it is wonderful. I don't see how you could do that with your underwear on with all the oil and underneath longer strokes.
I have always been unclothed but draped. I like the longer strokes and I have fibromyalgia as well as a pelvic pain condition. For this reason, abdominal massage is really good for me. Over time, some of my therapists when we became comfortable with one another have offered more minimal draping and I have gladly taken it. I do not get nervous - that is one of the problems with fibromyalgia in that I am too tired and in pain to even care about anything.
I have always had draped massage and I was nude under the sheet or the towel. I am a Registered Nurse and have zero modesty when it comes to a medical treatment or other therapies. The exceptions were this past year, I was at the Meridian Spa in Hamburg, Germany. I had lower back pain and had a long drive in front of me. After going to the Spa, I asked for a 30 minute massage. I was ushered into the massage room. The therapist asked me to disrobe, but keep my underwear on. I told her that I had just come from the spa and just had a pair of shorts on. She said "Okay, take them off and get on the table." She did not leave the room. I turned around and got naked and laid on the table. I was face down and she proceeded to massage me without a drape. I was so sore in in legs and hips I did not care. The massage actually seemed to flow better with me naked. She then asked me to turn on my back, and I did. Again she did not cover me, but proceeded to massage the front of my legs all the way down to the feet. She seemed oblivious to my nudity. This was the first time I had a totally naked massage, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was NOT erotic, and I had some great pain relief in my legs. Then in December I was making home visits to patients for IV therapy, and I had to wait 3 hours for a patient to have her supplies delivered. I found a massage therapist, and requested a one hour massage. I laid down on the table covered by a towel and was face down. She entered the room and removed the towel. I had another great nude massage. She then told me to turn over, and massaged my shoulders, chest and legs. I was exposed, but like the therapist in Germany, she ignored that gave a great massage without erotic overtones. I am back home now, and all they offer are draped massages. I am grateful for that, but would not mind another undraped massage.
There's no doubt in my mind that nude is better. It's a better experience for the client and it's easier for the therapist. And, as Ace88 observed, it's pretty much essential for things like lomilomi.
All I want is a professional massage, the amount of skin exposed does not matter to me.
A washrag over the genital area would be sufficient.
Thanks for your response, Gary

Well, I have been getting massages since 2012. They have helped my sciatica and hip pain a lot. The majority of these have been draped massages, and I am naked under the sheet or towel. It is just best n my opinion, and it is less embarrassing not having to take the underwear off or pull them down. Just get naked and get under the sheet. Then I went to Germany and had my first undraped nude massage. I was in a spa in Hamburg (clothing optional). and I requested a massage. I followed the therapist into the room. She told me to get undressed and did not leave the room. She was doing paperwork, and I just had on shorts and a T shirt. I got naked and laid on the table face down. Then she gave me a great massage, and did not mind that I was undraped. I dd not mind either, as she did not have to move any towels or sheets. Then she asked me to turn over so she could do the front of my legs and chest. I was shocked, but did as she said. I laid their exposed, and she just continued the massage. There was no hanky panky. It was the best massage I ever had. Then last month, I went to an Asian Spa. I went to the room and laid on the table under a towel. The Therapist came in and removed the towel. Again I got a great undraped massage. She asked me to turn over as well I did. Nothing erotic happened. I just received a great massage. Then this past week, I went there again, and asked for the shower table along with the massage. I had a half hour massage and then she led me to the shower table. She gave me a towel to cover myself in the hall way. I laid on the shower table naked. The table was wet with bubbling hot water coming through a piece of foam. Then she sprayed me with hot water and soaped me up really well. She had a mitt on one hand to scrub me. She scrubbed all the dead skin off. Then I had to turn over and she did the same to the front. I was completely clean. She asked me to sit up and she dried me off. I was led back to the massage room where I sat on a couch and she out my socks on for me and handed me the rest of the clothes. It was an amazing experience. No hanky panky of any kind, just a great massage.
Gary - thanks for posting that. Nudity does not have to involve sex!
By the way, this topic is being talked about on LinkedIn
Gary - thanks for posting that. Nudity does not have to involve sex!
Yes, I learned that nudity does not equal sex. I save that for my wife. There is no way I would ever have sex with another woman.
As a medical professonial, I have learned to separate nudity and sex. Nudty is just normal, and not that big a deal. Since 2012, I have had 3 surgeries, 2 or them urological, and most of my doctors have been women. That does not bother me at all, as they are professional. Nudity should be considered just normal and not an invitation to sex.
