I am seeing a client this evening who broke their neck 20 years ago. He said he has had massages before and that it is all fine.

I think i will do a general postural assessment and check what his normal range of movement is.

Do you think i need to use a lighter pressure over the area affected ( i need to ask whereabouts it broke) or because it was such a long time ago i should treat is as normal??

Thanks:D

So you're not trained in Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage?

I broke my neck 20 years ago and despite lots of physio and chiropractic (which were both totally useless), I still can't have any kind of massage on it. I've tried holistic and swedish, aromatherapy. It's just too painful to touch. Even reflexology can be very painful on those points. About the only thing that I can have is cranial osteopathy. So I'd be very careful when they say that it's fine. I have full range of movement and my posture is fantastic, but my neck's a mess and always will be. Go with your instincts when you meet them, because you can't necessarily tell by the way they walk in the room.

Go by your instincts.

I am trained in holistic massage which uses Swedish as its method. I am training with ITEC at the moment for holistic and sports.
