Does anyone have frustrations on parts being skipped during a full body massage?.In my experience the muscles that get missed of most are the glutes, upper thigh top of quads, abs, inner thigh. It's frustrating when you pay for a full body massage yet only half the body is done.

Genital therapeutic massage

I don't disagree with Amethystfairy, but it also depends on the mindset of the individual and how they perceive the treatment. I doubt, if a woman with sever, chronic vulvar pain would experience genital therapeutic massage as sexual or sensual.

At the same time I have given reflexology or Indian head massage to fully dressed women and sometimes judging by the feedback, they clearly experienced the session as an erotic one.

I'd be even more surprised if a woman with severe, chronic vulvar pain would be that keen on having it massaged!

Decided to google genital massage and was shocked to find clitoral massage, prostrate massage etcetc. it is erotic massage and I am sorry but I don't think that can be achieved with out feeling anything sexual!

Hmmm...Going back to the original point,...

I've just qualified in Holistic Massage, so the aim is basically general stress relief. If there are any problem areas that need proper attention there's no way I can fit a whole body massage into an hour. I've also just gotten my website up and running, and have been concerned about the term Full Body Massage for this reason.
I think I'm going to look at it again and reword it. And of course, remember to discuss this as part of the consultation!

Kevin, you really made me laugh 😀

Never mind the 'Full Body' massage; tell me about the 'Extended Full Body' massage!;) (on your web page - Treatments).
PS When can I book?

You may want to look at the book "Heal Pelvic Pain" by Amy Stein. She has a detailed section on genital internal and external massage, albeit refers to it as self massage, to avoid any criticism of impropriety.

Amy Stein is also a contributor to the medical textbook Female Sexual Pain Disorders: Evaluation and Management, and she serves on the board of the International Pelvic Pain Society.

as a runner I would say that along with my upper back glutes are the area that i would most appreciate being massaged. This is partly because they sometimes get stiff or painful and partly because I cant massage them myself - I can have a reasonable go at calves, for example. I have had some surprisingly good work done on them - without direct massage but a massage would work well and feel more connected
I find the idea that the back of my body ends at the waist and starts again half way down my thighs odd and a bit disquieting.
I see the ideal massage therapist as being accepting of bodies, while protecting self and client by keeping to boundaries. I suspect these boundaries will move around a bit according to the cultures and sensitivities of both.

My C&G training for Swedish body massage did not cover the chest or anywhere inbetween the knees and hips. 🙁

Hi LV

That's terrible. Still, I'm sure you can work it out. It's just the same moves that you use on other parts of the body. There's plenty of CPD/Post-Grad courses out there.

Best Wishes

Hi Longvines have you had training on these areas since?During your training did you think it strange so many muscle groups were missed off?

It happens to us all! You get to the end of a massage then think I could have done that better then you realise you have missed something, its human -and as most of the posts point out -certain areas are not touched for good reason! So for the most part a full body is never a full body!

When receiving an enquiry for a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, a massage that is given fully naked, I have on occasion had a guy ask me "what happens if I get arosed?" with the distinct implication that I should 'finish him off'! naturally...lol

Funny eh?

It seams masseuse/masseur didn’t do anything useful for you. All important muscles were skipped.
This is strange for me, because even if it is a full body massage your therapist needs to tell you what will be done and what are his/her focus area. Full body massage is not a cooking of clients with equally marinated body parts (but even if you marinate chicken you cannot skip these muscles in any way, it seams your therapist is a bad masseur/masseuse and very bad at cooking)

Hello Amethystfairy
Interesting post,my answer is No full body massage doesn't include the genitalia

In Thailand they do include. They are sure that they’re need to massage all muscles of the body including penises and etc.

Now you understand why it is so popular)))

All my references are to a 'treatment', no mention of 'full body', so anyone looking for a 'full body' treatment that they can be disappointed about hopefully won't bother with someone that doesn't offer 'full body' treatments.

Almost any person the first time I see them will need more work on their back and glutes than anywhere else, so that's where I focus the most on a first appointment, unless they've actually said some other area is a concern. Generally from finding out what the issues with their back/neck/glutes I can then get more specific on subsequent appointment, or more general (approaching 'full body') if there aren't other issues to focus on. Unless you're doing more towards relaxation massage, doing a full body in a 1hr appointment with some focus on problems is impossible.

Let's see
Supine
5 min left leg
5 min right leg
3 min right arm
3 min left arm
5 min neck
5 min face/scalp
5 min abs
5 min chest
36min

Prone
5 min left leg
5 min right leg
3 min left arm
3 min right arm
5 min glutes

SORRY YOUR TIME IS UP, NO BACK AND SHOULDERS

5 min for chest? Are you sure you are talking about massage
10 min for leg? In full body massage????

I always curious what for clever mind created this absolutely inadequate and unprofessional timing?????? Therapist doing massage for the particular client with particular needs and particular focus area.....
From my point of view timings standards are too much stupid to follow them....
If therapist is not able create individual routine for particular treatment and not able to manage timing for particular client, then he/she must go to learn one more time and do not disappoint his/her clients...
