Thanks I thought that would be the solution in the UK, I could have one imported from Thailand, but the UPS costs are ridiculous. How portable are they?

Depends how thick and wide you want your futon matt to be!

Thanks Artemis, sorry I know I'm asking really daft questions. I've had a scout around and found a mat which I think would be okay 4ft x 6"6 and weighs 8.5kg... sounds reasonable to me as I don't want it to be too flimsy, I've also found some specialist portable shiatsu mats (imported) but they are much smaller and look pretty thin for £150+. Unfortunately I'm pretty restricted to using the internet, as nowhere sells futons near me and don't want to make a duff purchase.

Just wondered if anyone has been happy with their purchase and could recommend a good supplier.

Thanks for the recommendation, I've had a look at the website and they seem to have a good selection. I've been carting around a massage table 17kg for the last 2 years, so 8.5kg is featherweight for me.

Of course, it could be worse than 8.5 Kg...
When I go and do home visits to clients my "portbale matt" is a self-inflatable camping matt. Hold snicely in a big ruck-sack, and space left for cushions, blanket, etc...

Thanks Artemis, that's an interesting idea. I'd have never thought of a camping mat. It is difficult to decide what to buy because I know some of my clients have very limited space, which restricts my choice. I've been in touch with Futonpacifika and may opt to have my ideal size made up.

If you go for a camping matt, go for th eself-inflating ones. They are more expensive, but ready in only minutes and very easy to top up with air by blowing in them if need be. They come in different thicknesses too. Try them in the shop.

I am also in the process of searching for a Thai massage mat and found your idea of a self inflatable camping mat quite interesting. I have never used one for a treatment and would like to know how stable it is? I would be a bit concerned about the movement from the air as a thai mat should be very stable and sterdy for the practitioners balance.

As I have never used one, I would appreciate if you could let me know what it is like during a treatment.
