Hi
I'm looking for recommendations for studying Thai Yoga Massage abroad. I'm on a budget, so was thinking about the USA [due to favourable exchange rate] or somewhere like Thailand but open to anywhere really.
Thanks in advance!
Here's a link for studying in Northern Thailand - board and living accommodation is incredibly cheap there, though not sure about flights. I did a course in the UK with Kira Balaskas, she trained with Asokananda.
I've thought about same myself.

Hi ya Yogajoga
There is many ways of studying Thai Yoga Massage.
In Thailand:
There's the Sunshine School started by Asokananda
Nerve Touch School
ITM School
The famous Wat Po School (Southern style is a bit hard with the pressures though)
If you are thinking of America:
Tao Mountain run by Pieice Salgeuro will have information about training.
Also in Canada is the Lotus Palm School
Or if you wish to do an introduction course, I'm running one in October in Cornwall (still exotic). My long term plan is to use this course as module one of a future diploma course. PM me if you are interested.
Whatever you train, I hope you get the best out of it.
Cheers
Reiki Pixie
Thanks for the great info! ReikiPixie - have you been to the ITM school in Thailand? I like the idea of doing Level 1 and Level 2 together. Am I being thick or do they not publish the course dates on the site?
Hi ya YJ
Because I trained a high level in the UK, I haven't done the ITM levels 1 and 2. On my last trip to Thailand, I did the 3 day Thai herbal compress and the 2 day Oriental sports massage course (which was a one off) at the ITM for my continued professional development. The herbal compress course had many elements of levels 1 & 2, so my tutor told me. Yes they do publish course dates and they usually start on Monday.
I'm going on my 3rd trip this December because there is also more to learn from one of the Thai masters.
There is always the TMC which has also a high level of training, but it's a bit clinical and sterile.
My personal favourite is the Nerve Touch School. More laid back and have a unique style of Thai massage.
Best Wishes

Thai Massage in Thailand
If you want the real deal, you want to go to Pichest, outside Chiang Mai, in Hang Dong
If you study with Pichest, learning takes a long time, but it is deep learning plus the underlying spiritual practice (dharma) explained every morning. Be ready to leave your ego at the door.
I would also recommend Sinchai, who is a blind massage doctor (Mor Nuad), practicing for 45 years
Home Page
He teaches very simple but useful techniques, and oversees each person personally (looking with his hands, of course). He is so kind.
Nerve touch
Advance courses with Jack Chia (Mama Lek's son) in the Nerve-touch style. The professional.
At Namo
NAMO Chiang Mai Thai Massage courses, daily yoga and yoga courses.
There is a really fun teacher called Nha Ja who will teach you one-on-one. She was a senior teacher at TMC, and is now a Mor (Doctor) in Thai Herbal Medicine. This is a beginners course. (the others are advanced)
Mama Nit is teaching from home now, but has good days and bad days.
Mr Nat at Supatra's massage also teaches the blind style of massage.
If you want to learn Thai massage in Thailand, with Thai people, (and you don't speak Thai), go see these people.
Thai Massage Course
Hi there
I did a two week course at The Sunshine Massage School in Chiang Mai, so you are covering parts 1 and 2. I stayed in a lovely hotel called Imm Eco, which was about a 10 minute walk from the school. It had a fantastic pool too, which was great after a day of study. Alternatively, there are lots of cheap guest houses from about 200/300 baht a night, depending on the kind of budget you are on.
As one of the previous replies said, Pichest is the real deal. I did enquire about training with him, but he said to just turn up when I got to Chiang Mai, and I felt I wanted to book something in advance so that I knew where I would be studying and could book my accommodation close by. If you don't mind just turning up, then he has got one of the best reputations. The Sunshine Network also organise courses in some of the villages in the mountains surrounding Chiang Mai, if you want a village environment rather than a city.
For the cost of the flight, course and accommodation, you are paying about the same as you would learning in the UK. You get the added bonus of learning in the country that the treatment originates from, getting to know the culture, and not forgetting getting lots of cheap Thai massages while you are there.
I would return without a doubt, as it was a great experience.
Good luck with your decision.

I trained with Asokananda and also in the UK with Howard Evans. I'm due to run a UK based course this Autumn - if you are interested let me know @sunflowerbloom.co.uk">kate@sunflowerbloom.co.uk. The link for the course is Sunflowerbloom | The online metaphysical counselling service
If you want to study abroad, I really would recommend to go to Chiang Mai, Thailand to study. There are many good schools but I would recommend; Blue Garden Chiang Mai,
