I am enroled on the vtct swedish massage cert it has been condensed from one 3 hr lesson a week over 24 weeks to 2x3hr lessons over 12 wks. This means it leaves very little time for treatment practice and homework/case studies as you are one night a wk down and have half the time to cover all the work. Am I being soft or am I gettin a sub standard course? any opinions welcome as I'm new at all this touchy feely stuff. :Dlove peace n flowers jono.
p.s. I'm not just after the ticket I want to know.
RE: vtct 12 wks swedish massage to quick?
Hi,
I'm currently doing a 14-week course at the City Lit in London. We have class on Tuesday evenings (17:30-21:30) and all day Saturday (09:30-17:30). This covers Anatomy & Physiology / Business Theory (Tuesdays), massage theory (Saturday mornings) and massage practical (Saturday afternoons) It basically comes down to 3 sessions of3 hours each for 14 weeks. Bearing in mind that the last couple of weeks are dedicated to mock exams and exams.
We're 4 weeks into the course and I find that I can just about cope with the studies and working full-time as well. Does your 12-week course include mock exams and exams?
As long as you make sure you do plenty of home study and get a firm commitment from your case studies, you should be ok. But be sure to have backup case studies!
It doesn't sound like you're being short-changed, as long as they cover everything in the ITEC syllabus, you'll be ok - good luck! I'm really enjoying it so far.

Hi Jonny,
I did a VTCT Sports Massage Course severalyears back. It was over a whole academic year and was still very short on anything useful. I don't want to be negative, just giving you my experiences. I have heard from others that their VTCT courses were excellent so I think it depends who your tutor is.
How many case studies do you have to complete? If you have to squish the course into a shorter time then there's a chanceyou'll notdo as many hours of hands on practice in your own time.
I think it will also depend on what you plan to do after your course. Do you want to practice on friends or get paying clients?

Mt2be I think you will find the Syllabus for ITEC has a much bigger workload that VTCT.
I've just completed the VTCT Swedish Massage course and it was quite manageable.
My course lasted 30 weeks at 2.5 hours per week and we did lots of our course work and research during the lesson, and then did massage practice. Didn't have to spend more than a couple of hours a week working at home.
So you may find yourself a bit rushed, but in a way its good to get it over with more quickly as you can then start working professionally sooner. I think I would have struggled tho and I work part time.
It was very enjoyable, and not too taxing, but then I am a lazy b 😉

With VTCT you tend to not need so many case studies to pass the course - have you checked how many people you have to treat with your tutor?
There are a few places offering intensive courses - they say the minimum teaching hours is normally 100 hours - although I attended one school and didn't get half that - and still passed. (had to do A LOT of self-study) but came out competent and confident in my studies.
6 hours a week is fairly intensive and I anticipate that you'll cover a lot of ground and be set a reasonable amount of homework for the next session - I would imagine you'll have around an exam a weekif they still do all the in-class tests.
Imagine this - AOR Reflexology - 9 months @2.5 hours a week - 60 treatments.
VTCT Remedial Massage - 9 months - 16 treatments.
I did both courses at the same time - you can imagine which was the hardest - scale that down to 3 months and you have less treatments needed in the same time period VTCT over AOR. To get the 16 done (if that's the minimum still - I did way too many) you could get away with four treatments for four weeks and still make it). You should be fine to get case studies done - and if you run late you can apply for an extension.
You're on target for almost all the hours you need - if you factor exams in then you should hit the 100 hour mark. I'd be interested to know which school you're training at - training intensively suits me - you keep focus for the whole period.
Your course is probably just fine, it hits all the mimimums - if you do have any worries though - talk it through with the teacher - they are there to support you.
