Hi.

I would like to be honest here as I am really battling with this question. What aftercare advice would you give a client and why?

Eat a light diet.

This is what I think, but I need confirmation :

"Massage stimulates the digestive system, therefore eating a large meal will make the client feel nauseous".

Cany anyone please give me any other guidance.

Thank you.

Pemba

p.s. I have got over 95% for my 3 written assessments, so am working really hard on my course, but sometimes I get stuck.

RE: A question re Swedish Massage

Hi Pemba

You would not be able to advise on diet unless you was a dietician apart from the obvious ones concerning weight and strain on the back, it is not a good idea to have a massage straight after a large meal as this can make people feel uncomfortable with a stomach massage.

You need to think along the lines of what movements to avoid if they have certain dysfunctions, or would walking or swimming etc help them to become more supple etc. what about meditation or tai chifor their stress etc.

RE: A question re Swedish Massage

Aftercare - it is important always to state that they must drink up to 2 liters of water to flush out all toxins, which have been timulated by your masssage treatment, that they may get headaches which is a side affect, if they do not drink water - again to the toxins in the body that need to come out. They will urinate more, again due to toxins and drinking of water, needs to be disperse from the body, more drinking hence more urinating ! this is but a few of the reason for aftercae, if a client has never had a massage before, he needs to know what he will expereince, signs and symtoms, and that if he experiencess anything different to what you have said, that he must refer himself to a doctor.

RE: A question re Swedish Massage

Thanks for all the answers -

What I mean is that after a massage I would advise the client to eat a light diet, because massage stimulates the digestive system and eating a large meal will make the client feel nauseous.

I really wanted to know why is this the case after the massage. Why does a small meal differentiate from a large one.

Thanks P.
