Hi All,
This seems to be a common question on here but it short of time as alot of the courses start very soon and i'm starting to flap! I am a complete begginer looking for a change of career in to something that I have an actual interest in and being a very sports/fitness orientated i have decided to go down the route of sports massage/therapy. I would be looking to work on a self employed basis at the end of it
I'm Based in between Nottingham and Derby and have currently found 3 options a SPS course at Nottingham Uni run by SPS and validated by the University of Teesside, is not ITEC or VTCT but is NOS level 4 and approved by SMA
White Rose or Palm people in Derby are both ITEC/VTCT level 3 but i would initially have to take a masaage and A & P course before I could to the Sports massage level 3.
While I would gain a level 4 on the Uni course fees are nearly twice as much as the level 3 courses and I am worried that if the industry became regulated would the uni course be recognised in the same way as the ITEC or VTCT qualifications?
Any advice on these courses/schools would be welcome together with other suggestions.
Thanks
Matt
Post updated with further information.

Whilst I can't comment on the schools, I have trained graduates from two of the schools, but I still can't comment. These schools offer sports massage and not sports therapy. I believe all 3 schools will allow you to register with the regulator, as a massage therapist, none will allow registration as a sports therapist.
Regarding regulation, the industry IS regulated, you need to complete a course that meets the GCMT core curriculum, and National Occupational Standards. I believe all level 3 and 4 ITEC & VTCT qualification are acceptable to SMA. My advice would be, see which one covers at least 80 hours in class, and go with that one. As soon as you have got your foundation qualification and got some experience, you may find you need additional courses to work in this expanding, but very competitive industry.
Good luck.

😮 Careful what you wish for
