Hiya

I am looking for a lists of muscles used in different sports and wondered if anyone had come across a book that holds these? I have searched on the internet for a variety of different sports but have only come up with peoples suggests on forums.

As a cross country mountain biker I know that the muscles I use are different to the muscles that my teenage son uses when he competes in 4x or downhill mountain bike races. And again when we go out training on our road bikes the muscles used are slightly different again. It would be very useful to find a reliable source for a wide variety of sports such as running, swimming, ruby, football etc...

Has anyone come across such a resource?

Thanks

SpikeyJo 🙂

Massage world magazine is doing a feature in each editon on the A-Z of Olympic Sports Massage which focuses on the different sports. So you many find one that relates to the sports that you are looking. The website is Massage World Magazine - For professional Massage & Bodywork Therapists

Devil's advocate
"All muscles are used in all sports" ~ Discuss 😎

On a (slightly) more serious note
Not to be overlooked is its not the name of the muscle used but the type of muscle contraction which it performs (ie: concentric / eccentric) which often has the greatest significance

For a visual example of this, watch a triathlete start running directly after cycling 😮
Or even try it youself

Predominately the same muscles being used but......................

Almost all muscles are used in each sports....

You need to formulate your question more precisely:
Primary muscles used in each activity.
Then you can combine this to any sports and any activity .

Why this better: some muscles becoming active only with a certain degree of movement. Some muscles when they contact can move joint and this will activate other muscles (for example , in very trivial words, when you straighten your leg at last couple of degrees there will be small degree of rotation and this activate other muscles).

From my point of view there is no need to have lists that you are looking for... you need just to understand biomechanics of movement and know muscles with their actions.
