Hi

Maybe working at the London Marathon this year and will need to travel by train to get there, has anyone travelled on the tube with there couch, is it possible, how did you manage. My main experiences of the London underground is that there is barely room to stand let alone take a couch as well .

Thanks

🙂

Hello and welcome to HP

I was a mobile therapist in London, worked at the Marathon and took tables and chairs on the underground many times. Yes it's possible and, as you get closer to the start/finish you'll see other therapists with tables.

My advice - if your table isn't lightweight then try and borrow one that is. Makes heaving it about much easier. Some use trolleys but I found the extra weight a pain and they don't make steps easy but depends how far you have to walk before/after. Also get organised have wipes, towels, oils etc in a single bag (rucksack?) and make sure cash, oystercard, passes etc are safe but easy to access quickly.

Lastly it's mostly visitors on the tube on Marathon Day (you can tell because they're all talking to each other!). People are generally helpful/in a good mood and willing to make room. Big smile, say 'excuse me' if you need space and move in, try not to block the doorway and, if all else fails, it's perfectly acceptable to politely ask people to move down (you may have to shout) so you can get in/out.

I loved working the marathon, it's such a great atmosphere and the runners are so inspiring. Hope you get a chance to do it.
