Good morning, I qualified in 1985 as a Beauty Therapist with an IHBC International Masters diploma in Health and Beauty therapy. I am looking to further my qualifications now, moving into remedial sports massage (better late than never) and I am looking for the equivalent of this qualification in today's money, as college's are asking for Body massage level 3. At the time it was a high level diploma in the subject and took a year, but I have no idea what it is in level terms. Does anyone know?
Many thanks.
I don't mean to be flippant DAB47, but I looked at your post and for some reason, an organisation that my husband has been dealing with popped into my head - Institute of Historical Building Conservation - the thought bubble floated across my head - "my goodness, they have diversified"!!!
Anyway. Who are/were the IHBC - do they still exist? Been amalgamated with another training provider? Have you contacted them to see if your previous qualification has a current 'level status' that will give you access to further training?
Hi DAB and welcome to Healthypages,
I've moved your post over to the Sports Massage forum as it'll like get more responses in here. 😉

Equivalent qualifications
Hello Jabba,
Thanks for the reply. IHBC is International Health & Beauty Council (although the building conservation option does sound interesting!!)
I have been searching the internet for contact details for them, but as yet failed to find them. They may been taken over by another organisation, I'm still unsure. Thanks anyway.

Were they taken on by The Guild of Beauty Therapists? [DLMURL="http://www.beautyguild.com/membershipbenefits/membershipeligibleINA.asp"]Beauty Guild : Am I eligible to join the Guild? - Beauty Guild[/DLMURL]
Jabba, I don't think so... I'm still on the case and have emailed a couple of organisations to see if they know. Just need to know as I am being asked for certain levels of Body Massage qualifications. Thanks.
Answer to Question
Hi,
I have just received a reply to my email from the Awarding organisation VTCT, explaining that they took over IHBC - so that explains that. Apparently they do hold records of learners from that period (1985) but not electronically. However for a fee (£30) they can give you an academic transcript if required.
Hope that helps anyone else from that era that needs to find out if they have the necessary equivalent qualifications to advance their training today.
Many thanks.
