Hi

I have been qualified in therapeutic massage (ITEC) since 1995 and in 2005 did the above 12 week course in Sports Massage. It was only the 2nd year that C&G had run it and I wasn't incredibly impressed by the lack of support that you were given - alot of the time you were told that as you were a qualified therapist that you should already know all of your a & p (like completely up to scratch - each muscle, membrane etc) - so there was no further training on that. Conditions - we were just told to research rather than getting in-depth training on that but at least the techniques were well taught and I have used them ever since.

My issue is that whilst I seem to have been successful in the conditions I have treated (mainly tight shoulders/neck/glutes/hamstrings etc) I would shy away from someone who was an athlete or even an amateur sports person because I just feel that my 3 months versus someone elses 12 months of training, doesn't really match. Has anyone had any experience of the course I did and are there any thoughts on the course/post?

Cheers Muchley!

I agree - as a sports massage therapist it is a must for you to know and understand a&p and pathology, etc.
Unfortunately nowadays therapist are therapist only on paper (not all of course but significant majority)

But:
1. Even if you had a la training , you can always learn and study. My advice - do it. A&p is the only key in your pocket and tool in your hands. Or if you have a friend , do it together
2. Do not loose healthy confidence level. You have ‘specialisation’ and this is ultimately great! But learning and increasing understanding will increase your specialisation!

Each condition has many approaches and yes, research +training (even informal) is always good and sign of your development!

And yes, you always can consult with colleagues.... on here as well
